Biography:

Long-time wrestling fans call him “the voice of their childhood.”

Fortunately, a new generation of AEW faithful will have that same luxury.

Tony Schiavone has broadcast pro wrestling since 1983 and is still going strong. He serves as the lead announcer on AEW Collision, analyst on AEW Dynamite and pay-per-view shows, and conducts a variety of interviews both inside the ring and out for all of the company’s programming and internet outlets.

Although he grew up a pro wrestling fan – his favorite match is Ric Flair and Greg Valentine teaming to face the Ole & Gene Anderson in 1978 at the Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum – Schiavone never envisioned that he would be calling the action after graduating with a communications degree from James Madison University. Tony’s love of baseball led to him landing a job broadcasting for the minor-league Charlotte Orioles, which were owned by Jim Crockett Jr.

Yes, the same Jim Crockett Jr. who also owned Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling (a k a Jim Crockett Promotions).

Seeking to augment his income, Schiavone approached the Crocketts about working for both of their enterprises. Tony did such a good job on the wrestling end of things that he transitioned out of baseball in 1985.

For almost 30 years, Schiavone was a staple on pro wrestling telecasts on WBD cable channels. He returned to TBS in October 2019 with the launch of AEW Dynamite. In 2024, Schiavone was presented the prestigious Gordon Solie Award by the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame.

When not working for AEW or on his What Happened When podcast, Schiavone can be found playing with his dogs and collecting vintage baseball cards – he owns more than 10,000 -- at the Atlanta-area home he shares with his wife of 44 years, Lois. The couple has five children.
