AEW Collision: Maximum Carnage Preview

Cincinnati and the Brady Music Center were amazing hosts for DYNAMITE: MAXIMUM CARNAGE, and tonight they're bringing that same energy to COLLISION: MAXIMUM CARNAGE! After Powerhouse Hobbs was robbed of the AEW World Title by The Death Riders, specifically Marina Shafir and that briefcase, he is looking forward to getting his hands on Jon Moxley and crew once more as part of a huge 12-Man Tag set to explode in Cincinnati! Mox, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta are aligning with The Learning Tree of ROH World Champion Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith  to face Hobbs, “The Rated R Superstar” Cope, FTR, and The Outrunners in what will no doubt be a chaotic situation!

Speaking of CHAOS, AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada is set to defend his title against a man who was once his closest of allies, “The Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii! Plus, Hangman Adam Page is set to face “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels in a Texas Death Match, Harley Cameron looks to even the score with Julia Hart after Wednesday night's Casino Gauntlet misting incident, and so much more coming your way as part of COLLISION: MAXIMUM CARNAGE!

COLLISION kicks off at 8pm ET/7pm CT on TNT, as well as streaming on MAX, so get prepared for this action-packed edition by visiting AEW's official YouTube channel to watch the highlights from Wednesday's DYNAMITE, previous editions of COLLISION, Timelines, and so much more! Then we are off to Knoxville, TN and the Knoxville Coliseum for a DYNAMITE featuring “The Bastard” PAC versus “The Rated R Superstar” Cope for the first-time ever!

12-MAN TAG TEAM CHAOS!

Rated FTR (Cash Wheeler, Cope, & Dax Harwood), The Outrunners (Truth Magnum & Turbo Floyd), and Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Death Riders (AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, AEW World Trios Champion Claudio Castagnoli, & AEW World Trios Champion Wheeler Yuta) and The Learning Tree (ROH World Champion Chris Jericho, Big Bill, & Bryan Keith

This is quite the explosive situation we have on our hands here, the unifying of The Death Riders and The Learning Tree against shared enemies, but theirs is not exactly an alliance built on trust. After all, the history between Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley, as well as that of Chris Jericho and Claudio Castagnoli, is not exactly filled with friendship. Mox took the AEW World Title from Jericho back at REVOLUTION 2020 while Claudio ended Jericho's first ROH World Title reign at FINAL BATTLE 2022. It's a tenuous enough alliance that Jericho elected to address it in his latest “New York Minute”:

While there may be plenty of questions about that side of the equation, there's no doubt that Rated FTR, The Outrunners, and Powerhouse Hobbs will be able to co-exist in the face of their shared adversaries. What is a question however is how Hobbs is holding up after his fight with Jon Moxley just a few days ago, specifically how his surgically-repaired knee is feeling after the punishment it endured on DYNAMITE. There's no question that as long as Hobbs can walk to the ring he will be there for the fight, so will The Death Riders and The Learning Tree be able to stand up to that onslaught tonight on COLLISION: MAXIMUM CARNAGE?

TEXAS DEATH MATCH!

“Hangman” Adam Page vs. “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels

“Hangman” Adam Page is synonymous with the Texas Death Match in All Elite Wrestling; eight such matches in All Elite Wrestling history, four of them have involved the former AEW World Champion, and he's won three of those. The only other men who've fought in more than one are Jon Moxley and Lance Archer, and Hangman beat them both when faced their challenge. Tonight Page enters into his fifth Texas Death Match, facing a man who has only ever competed in one during his entire 30+ year career, “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels!

It has been more than eight years since Daniels' only other Texas Death Match, an ROH World Title fight at SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST 2017, NIGHT 2 that he lost largely due to a flaming table, but he's certainly up for the challenge after spending most of 2024 wearing suits and ties as an Interim EVP. With Kenny Omega back on the job, Christopher Daniels is free to get back into the squared circle and fight for the first time in four months. It's been almost a decade since the first time Adam Page and Christopher Daniels shared a ring at GLOBAL WARS 2015, NIGHT 1, and over six years since SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST 2018 when they last met inside the ring and Daniels eliminated Hangman from the field. Between that first bout and their last, there are a total of 16 matches involving the two men and yet just a single one-on-one contest from ROH WRESTLING #337 back in March 2018 that Hangman Page won.

“The Fallen Angel” has watched Hangman Page grow from an uncertain greenhorn to a confident World Champion to an unhinged sociopath willing to throw anyone into the fire in his pursuit of reclaiming the AEW World Title. Daniels tried to be a friend, tried to offer advice, but the unsolicited nature of that was taken quite badly by “Hangman” and has led us all down this path to Texas Death!

Can Christopher Daniels begin the 32nd year of his career with a tremendous victory over Hangman Page in what has essentially became the former World Champion's match? Or will Page leave him a bloody mess like he did with Jon Moxley, Lance Archer, and Adam Cole?

AEW CONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH...

“The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada(c) vs. “The Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii

On February 24th of last year Kazuchika Okada wrestled his final match as a member of the New Japan Pro Wrestling locker room. It was a 10-Man tag pitting CHAOS against The United Empire, and one of the men standing at Okada's side was none other than “The Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii. As one of CHAOS' founding fathers, Ishii was right there when Okada joined the unit in 2012 en route to winning his first IWGP Heavyweight Championship from Hiroshi Tanahashi. Ishii was right there for Okada's four G1 Climax victories as well as his two New Japan Cup triumphs, not to mention all five IWGP Heavyweight Title wins and his two World Heavyweight Championship victories, not to mention they reigned as NEVER Openweight Six-Man Champions together with Tanahashi.

They've been partners in well over 300 matches, been on opposing sides of the ring a number of times, but only five times have those been one-on-one encounters, and all were as part of a tournament situation. In 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2020 they met in the G1 Climax with Okada winning three of those four encounters, while in 2019 he scored another victory over his CHAOS stablemate in the Semifinals of the New Japan Cup tournament.

That was then, this is now and this “Rainmaker” is a whole different animal than the one who left New Japan a year ago. This is a version of Okada who spent the majority of his time with AEW alongside The Elite and it cultivated this arrogance unlike anything fans had seen out of Okada before. He's got every reason in the world to be proud of his amazing accomplishments, especially after making history by winning the 2024 Continental Classic to establish himself as the greatest tournament wrestler ever, but will it sour the history between these two competitors? Okada actually seemed happy to see Ishii in the video embedded above, but Ishii was all business in calling his shot for a Continental Title match.

Will this first-ever title match between the two old friends result in the crowning of the 3rd Continental Champion, or will Okada handle this business the way he has almost all of his since coming to AEW and do whatever is necessary to keep the championship?

ONE-ON-ONE...

Harley Cameron vs. Julia Hart

This past Wednesday night on DYNAMITE: MAXIMUM CARNAGE both Harley Cameron and Julia Hart participated in the Casino Gauntlet for a shot at the AEW Women's World Championship come GRAND SLAM: AUSTRALIA. The outcome of the bout went in Toni Storm's favor, but there's no doubt that the interaction between Julia, Harley, and Jamie Hayter played a role in that result. Though  Harley avoided a Haterade from the former Women's Champion, she ended up with a face full of black mist from Hart. Julia kicked Hayter right in the head to knock her out of the equation, but the time Hart took to try and apply her Hartless submission left her vulnerable to a small package pin from Toni.

Each blames the other for neither securing the championship opportunity, so tonight on COLLISION: MAXIMUM CARNAGE Julia Hart and Harley Cameron will go one-on-one for the first time to settle their score!

TAG TEAM BOUT...

Murder Machines (Brian Cage & Lance Archer) vs. Top Flight (Dante & Darius Martin)

Under the guidance of Don Callis, Brian Cage and Lance Archer have joined forces to create one of the most fearsome tag teams All Elite Wrestling has ever seen. Though their journey as a duo is just beginning, the 3-0 record they collected in 2024 showed them to be an utterly destructive force capable of leaving the entire tag team division broken at their feet.

Tonight they step into their first tag match of 2024 against one of the more experienced pairs in the division, Top Flight of Dante and Darius Martin! While Murder Machines have been having tremendous success since Callis unified them, the Martin brothers have not been having that same experience. Not only has there been a great deal of tension between the two, not only have the watched their supposed friend Action Andretti and Lio Rush stray far from where they started, but they're also just 1-4 over their last five tag team bouts, one of which being September's Tag Team Casino Gauntlet.

Can Top Flight get back on track and find their way back to contender's status, or will they be another bloody smear on the Murder Machines road to championship success?

TRIOS CONTEST...

Undisputed Kingdom (Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly, & Roderick Strong)

vs.

Shane Taylor Promotions (ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty, Capt. Shawn Dean, & Carlie Bravo)

For the first time in All Elite Wrestling, Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly, and Roderick Strong will unite in trios competition to take on Shane Taylor Promotions! Representing STP this week will be ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty, Capt. Shawn Dean, and Carlie Bravo, also making their AEW debut as a trio, but unlike the Undisputed Kingdom unit, it's also their first time ever fighting as a trio! Conversely, the UK have been doing this since 2018, and their friendships date back even further than that, so the question is if STP overcome that? As a group they've been on quite a roll in Ring of Honor, with Lee and Shane Taylor scoring victory in eight-man tag action this past Thursday on HONOR CLUB #99, but is that enough to surpass the history that Undisputed Kingdom carries into this fight tonight on COLLISION?
