AEW Collision Preview for August 31, 2024

It's Saturday night, which means all Colliders unite at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, SD for another action-packed edition of COLLISION! With  ALL OUT 2024 just a week away on Saturday September 7th, it's all about jockeying for a spot on that pay-per-view extravaganza, and the athletes of AEW are prepared for the fight! We've got a first-time clash of former ROH World Tag Champions when FTR faces Undisputed Kingdom, plus a hard-hitting singles match pitting The DCF's Kyle Fletcher against The Conglomeration's Tomohiro Ishii! Speaking of The Conglomeration, Orange Cassidy and Kyle O'Reilly will team with Hologram to take on the eclectic crew of ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty, Johnny TV, and The Beast Mortos, plus we've got a Four-Way Women's bout on tap with Deeb vs. Rosa vs. Aminata vs. Shida, and much more on tap for the great fans in South Dakota!

COLLISION gets underway beginning 8pm ET/7pm CT on TNT, or check here for how to watch outside the United States, but no matter where you call home, fans can visit the official AEW YouTube channel to catch highlights from DYNAMITE, COLLISION, and RAMPAGE, as well as post-match fallout from ALL IN: LONDON 2024, to prepare for COLLISION! Then on Wednesday AEW travels to Milwaukee for the kick off to ALL OUT 2024 week with return  a the UWM Panther Arena on September 4th!

TAG TEAM CONTEST...

FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) vs. Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett)

On one side of the ring we have 3-Time ROH World Tag Team Champions Matt Taven and Mike Bennett, a combined 352-days spent atop the division with eight successful title defense all told, unquestionably one of the premier teams in ROH's history, but also ones who recently suffered the end of their third reign at the hands of Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara.

On the other side we've got FTR, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, also former ROH World Tag Champions (not to mention the other nine Tag Team Championship reigns amassed during their career together) who spent 253-days as title holders, successfully defended their crown on six occasions, and engaged The Briscoes in an utterly unforgettable trilogy of championship matches that culminated in FINAL BATTLE 2022's Double Dog Collar Match.

Surprisingly, save their eight-man tag meeting during the August 3rd COLLISION, these four men have never stood in the ring together for a traditional tag team bout, but that changes tonight in South Dakota! For the very first time, Undisputed Kingdom and FTR will go to battle inside the squared circle as both teams look to right their crooked ships after a rough go the last few weeks. As mentioned, UK lost their tag belts several weeks ago to Rhodes & Guevara, then it was Matt Taven who ate the pinfall loss to Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal last night on RAMPAGE, so they are very hungry for a taste of victory after all that. As for FTR, they're coming off a devastating loss at ALL IN: LONDON 2024 in the Three-Way World Tag Title match against The Young Bucks and The Acclaimed, putting them in a position to fight for another shot that Matthew and Nicholas Jackson will certainly not give easily.

Who will get their train back on the tracks tonight when AEW comes to Sioux Falls?

FOUR-WAY BOUT...

Queen Aminata vs. Serena Deeb vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Thunder Rosa

Two former AEW Women's World Champions, one promising young athlete making waves in ROH, and one of the most respected veteran competitors in the game today; throw them in the ring together for a Four-Way contest, and this is quite the intriguing competition! Queen Aminata makes her return to AEW television after several months spent in pursuit of the ROH Women's World TV Championship held by Billie Starkz. In her last AEW appearance, Aminata scored a win over Skye Blue, and she actually comes into this with two consecutive AEW victories as she also took down Anna Jay before that. Aminata has gone one-on-one with all three of her foes in this match, and although she did not claim victory against Rosa, Deeb, or Shida, the experience garnered from those bouts helped her grow into the contender she is today.

As for Serena Deeb, she has plenty of experience with Thunder Rosa over the last four years, with their most recent battle going down at DOUBLE OR NOTHING 2022 with the AEW Women's World Championship at stake, and their four singles matches an even 2-2 split. With Deeb and Shida, their head-to-head record tilts in The Professor's favor at 3-2, culminating in a Philadelphia Street Fight back in April 2022 where Deeb claimed victory to essentially earn that aforementioned title fight with Thunder Rosa at DON '22. Theirs was a rivalry that really showcased just how vicious Serena Deeb could be, and brought out an entirely new side of “The Professor” that AEW fans hadn't experienced.

Then there is Hikaru Shida, the longest-reigning and most successful AEW Women's World Champion of all-time with her first run, and a combined 436-days spent as champion between three reigns. She's beaten everyone All Elite Wrestling has placed in front of her, she carried the division on her shoulders during the pandemic days when no fans were allowed inside Daily's Place, she has the most singles wins in the division, she's perpetually jockeying with Nyla Rose for the most overall wins, will slide into the #2 spot for most matches with this bout there, so given all that Shida has absolutely earned the right to call herself “The Ace”. Unfortunately she was locked out of ALL IN: LONDON 2024, watching on pay-per-view rather than competing in a title fight as she did the year prior, and that has generated a great deal of frustration and anger Shida is no doubt looking to take out on the three women facing her tonight.

TRIOS BATTLE...

ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty, The Beast Mortos, & Johnny TV vs. The Conglomeration (Kyle O'Reilly & Orange Cassidy) and Hologram

As seems to be a growing tradition with COLLISION, and The Conglomeration in particular, we've got a wild Trios match on our hands for tonight's visit to Sioux Falls! When fighting all together, regardless of their permutation, The Conglomeration are 6-2 in Trios matches since June 12th when Mark, Kyle, and OC first united, but this time they're pulling the show-stealing Hologram into the mix to create an entirely different cocktail, but what a unit they make with Orange Cassidy and Kyle O'Reilly rounding out the trio. Kyle O'Reilly brings the striking and ground game, Hologram has got the top rope covered, and Orange Cassidy is such a proficient all-arounder that he can adapt to any opponent across the ring, which may prove to be crucial for this bout given the concoction they face tonight.

The power and ferocity of Beast Mortos, the amazing athleticism of Johnny TV, and the obviously championship caliber grappling game of Lee Moriarty; just like the Conglomeration and Hologram, together they make a combination of skills that is quite difficult to contend with!

Both sides are first-time Trios, which evens the playing field in terms of experience, so the question is which mix of ingredients will prove the best for success? This is going to be one exciting spectacle to watch unfold in South Dakota!

ONE-ON-ONE...

Don Callis Family's Kyle Fletcher vs. The Conglomeration's Tomohiro Ishii

“The Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii continues to be a busy man as he steps into the ring for the sixth time in eight days, two countries, four states, and four different wrestling companies. He started with last week's RAMPAGE on August 23rd and a trios victory alongside The Conglomeration, traveled to RevPro's 12TH ANNIVERSARY event the next day for a singles victory, then it was back to AEW for the Mixed Tag victory alongside Willow Nightingale during ALL IN: LONDON 2024's ZERO HOUR on the 25th. Now throw in travel from the UK to Champaign, IL, followed by an extremely hard-hitting match with Hangman Page on the 28th's DYNAMITE, a bout with Ariya Daivari on the 29th for ROH ON HONOR CLUB, and then competing on last night's NJPW CAPITAL COLLISION 2024 event in Washington DC where he and Hiroshi Tanahashi became #1 Contender's to the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Titles.

The journey isn't over yet though, because tonight on COLLISION Ishii will go head-to-head with The Don Callis Family's Kyle Fletcher! Now “The Protostar” and “The Stone Pitbull” are familiar with one another from CHAOS vs. United Empire battles under the New Japan banner, and of course that Global Glory Four-Way won by “The Bastard” PAC that netted him his ALL OUT 2024 International Championship match, but this is the first time the two men have gone one-on-one. They've also got a common thread in their history as both men are former ROH World TV champions, but tonight there are no titles in the picture, just a test to see which man is the better wrestler on this night in South Dakota!

Will this be another hard-hitting contest like Wednesday's fight between Ishii and Hangman, or will we see the machinations of Don Callis stain the proceedings?

COLLISION begins at 8pm ET/7pm CT on TNT, or check here for how to watch in Canada and around the world! Where ever you may be, make sure to visit the official AEW YouTube channel to catch highlights from DYNAMITE, COLLISION, and RAMPAGE, as well as post-match fallout from ALL IN: LONDON 2024, to prepare for COLLISION! Then AEW is off to Milwaukee to get ALL OUT 2024 week underway with our return to the UWM Panther Arena on September 4th followed by Friday COLLISION in Chicago on the 6th!
