AEW Double or Nothing 2025 Preview
Will Ospreay vs. “Hangman” Adam Page – Men’s Owen Hart Cup Final
One of the night’s marquee attractions will be the Men’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament Final pitting Will Ospreay against “Hangman” Adam Page. This matchup is not only about honoring the legacy of the late, great Owen Hart, but also about the huge reward awaiting the winner, as the Owen Hart Cup victor earns a future AEW World Championship opportunity at All In: Texas.
Both men battled through a tough tournament field to get here. Hangman Page, a former AEW World Champion, is hungry for redemption both in and out of the ring and to earn another crack at the title he once held. Across the ring, Will Ospreay brings an impeccable pedigree and spectacular high-flying offense; the British sensation wants to add AEW accolades to his storied career. Both men made compelling cases for what drives them to want to win this tournament last week on Dynamite.
With pride, legacy, and a guaranteed title match on the line, expect nothing less than an instant classic in the Owen Hart Cup Final.
Jamie Hayter vs. Mercedes Moné – Women’s Owen Hart Cup Final
The stakes are equally high in the Women’s Owen Hart Cup Final, as Jamie Hayter faces Mercedes Moné in a dream encounter. The winner of this match will earn an opportunity at the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In: Texas.
For Jamie Hayter, winning this tournament could catapult her back to the top of the division she once reigned over. On the other side stands Mercedes Moné, the globally renowned superstar who is the current AEW TBS Champion and undefeated in AEW singles action. Capturing the Owen Hart Cup would further cement her legacy and bring her one step closer to winning the AEW Women’s World Title.
In recent weeks, tensions have escalated – Moné has confidently proclaimed that no one can outshine her, while Hayter is fighting for redemption and respect. With a championship opportunity awaiting the winner, both women will do everything it takes to claim the Owen Hart Cup and step closer to championship gold.
Anarchy in the Arena – Kenny Omega, Swerve Strickland, The Opps and Willow Nightingale vs. Death Riders and Young Bucks
Chaos will reign once again at Double or Nothing in the infamous Anarchy in the Arena match. This year’s edition features two loaded teams of six going to war all over the arena in what is sure to be a wild, anything-goes melee.
On one side, Kenny Omega, Swerve Strickland, Willow Nightingale, and the AEW World Trios Champions, collectively known as The Opps (the trio of Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata & Powerhouse Hobbs) have entered into an alliance based on their mutual disdain for the Death Riders and Young Bucks, who have collectively cost this group opportunity after opportunity.
Opposing them will be none other than AEW World Champion Jon Moxley and his Death Riders crew, joined by the Young Bucks, Matthew and Nicholas Jackson.
This colossal confrontation has been brewing for weeks. Ever since The Opps defeated Moxley’s Death Riders to capture the Trios Titles – in a match that saw outside interference from the Bucks, Swerve and Willow – all hell has broken loose between these groups. We’ve seen in past Anarchy matches that anything from steel chairs to arena staircases to exploding sneakers can come into play.
Expect no rules and no mercy; the ring cannot contain these vendettas. This match is guaranteed to be absolute bedlam.
“Timeless” Toni Storm vs. Mina Shirakawa – AEW Women’s World Championship
AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm puts her title on the line against Mina Shirakawa, a recent AEW signee who has rocketed into the title picture, playing off of the history between these two women. These two have faced off with the championship at stake before, at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 30, 2024, where Storm defended her title against Shirakawa. Storm retained the championship, but the match was notable for its emotional undertones centered on the dynamic between Storm, Shirakawa and Mariah May.
More recently, the Japanese star pinned Toni Storm in a four-way eliminator match to earn this title shot. The feud intensified on the May 21, 2025 Dynamite, when Shirakawa defeated Julia Hart and subsequently attacked Storm, applying a ringpost figure-four leglock, leaving the champion in visible agony.
Shirakawa has made it clear that while she respects Toni’s accomplishments, she is coming to Double or Nothing with one goal: to take the Women’s World Championship. Storm, meanwhile, is ready to feel more alive than she’s ever felt before by stepping into the ring once again with Mina.
The Hurt Syndicate (Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley) vs. The Sons of Texas (Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara) – AEW World Tag Team Championship
The Hurt Syndicate’s Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin have brought a new level of dominance to the tag division since claiming the titles earlier this year. Backed by their ruthless attitude and championship pedigree, the powerhouse duo has turned away all challengers so far. But entering Double or Nothing, they face a team with serious motivation: Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara, proudly known as the Sons of Texas.
This pairing of veteran and young stars has clicked in a big way. Rhodes and Guevara, who are also the ROH World Tag Team Champions, earned this title shot by winning a match at Collision: Beach Break against CRU’s Lio Rush & Action Andretti.
On the other side, Lashley and Benjamin have shown no hesitation in destroying everyone in their way. The champions have been nearly unstoppable, with Lashley’s raw power complementing Benjamin’s technique and veteran savvy. They’re often accompanied by MVP, and now, after this week’s official contract signing, MJF is part of The Hurt Syndicate.
Sammy and Dustin know they carry the pride of their home state into this battle, and a win would be especially sweet against the swaggering champions. Will we see a Texas-sized triumph and new tag champs crowned, or will The Hurt Syndicate continue their reign of dominance? This championship clash promises to deliver a mix of old-school intensity and high-octane action as both teams fight for tag team supremacy.
Kazuchika Okada vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey – AEW Continental Championship
Kazuchika Okada will defend the AEW Continental Championship against the red-hot challenger “Speedball” Mike Bailey. Okada is a living legend, and since arriving in AEW he’s demonstrated exactly why. The “Rainmaker” won the Continental Title in March 2024 and has impressively racked up 11 successful defenses in the year since. Now, for his 12th defense, Okada meets a man who has not been pinned in AEW to date.
“Speedball” earned this title shot through a combination of impressive victories and by openly challenging the champion earlier this month. On Dynamite, Okada himself welcomed the challenge – making clear that if Bailey wanted a fight, the champion was more than willing to oblige.
Bailey’s unorthodox style and relentless speed present a unique challenge for Okada, who is known for his endurance, precision dropkicks, and match-ending Rainmaker clothesline. Could “Speedball” be the one to finally solve Okada and end his dominant run? Or will Kazuchika Okada once again prove that every challenger falls when it matters most? With the Continental Championship – a prize symbolizing international excellence – on the line, this bout could easily be a show-stealer. Expect a fast-paced, hard-hitting contest for the gold.
Mark Briscoe vs. Ricochet – Stretcher Match
A deeply personal feud reaches its climax at Double or Nothing as Mark Briscoe goes one-on-one with Ricochet in a Stretcher Match. This will be the first-ever Stretcher Match in AEW history, and it comes with a simple yet brutal stipulation: there are no pinfalls, no submissions, no disqualifications – the only way to win is to incapacitate your opponent enough to strap them to a stretcher, put them into an ambulance and shut the ambulance door.
The bad blood began when Ricochet and Briscoe were on opposite sides in multiple multi-man matches, often coming to blows and even engaging in a “Battle of the Balds” in previous weeks. In particular, Ricochet took it upon himself to bully the one-legged veteran Zach Gowen, even injuring Gowen and sending him to the hospital. Briscoe, a proud fighter and loyal friend, wasn’t about to let that stand. After weeks of sneak attacks and brawls, Briscoe challenged Ricochet to this Stretcher Match, vowing to make the high-flying superstar pay for his cruelty. Ricochet, never short on confidence, gleefully accepted and even promised to hospitalize Briscoe just like he did Gowen.
The intensity escalated when Briscoe literally brought a stretcher to the ring, ready for a fight, showcasing just how far he’s willing to go. Now the stage is set for a uniquely dangerous battle. Briscoe is known for his toughness and heart – he’s fought in every environment imaginable over his career. Ricochet is known for his aerial brilliance, but in recent months we’ve seen a mean streak from him, as he’s willing to bend the rules and fight dirty to make a statement. The contrast in personalities is stark: Briscoe is beloved for his authenticity and never-say-die attitude, while Ricochet has shown disdain for fan favorites and the AEW locker room. With a stretcher waiting at ringside, one of these men will be leaving on wheels rather than walking.
FTR vs. Nigel McGuinness & Daniel Garcia – Grudge Tag Team Showdown
A special tag team grudge match will take place at Double or Nothing, as the decorated duo FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) face the team of Nigel McGuinness & Daniel Garcia. This match is steeped in personal animosity and a true big-fight feel, largely because it marks an in-ring return for Nigel McGuinness on pay-per-view.
The issues began when FTR – frustrated former AEW World Tag Team Champions who have shown their jerkish tendencies since turning on Cope – started antagonizing McGuinness, who has been an AEW commentator. FTR’s recent rule-breaking and bad attitude (“crossing the line repeatedly,” as McGuinness put it) did not sit well with the normally composed McGuinness, especially when they put their hands on his fellow commentator, the legendary Tony Schiavone.
After enduring enough insults and interference, Nigel accepted Daniel Garcia’s invitation to join him in the ring to fight FTR. Garcia has had his own history with FTR, and he’s eager to teach FTR a lesson. The English grappling legend McGuinness is known for his cerebral in-ring style and toughness, but ring rust could be a factor.
And as McGuinness has said multiple times, FTR are not to be underestimated. They are widely regarded as one of the best tag teams on the planet, with impeccable chemistry and a smash-mouth approach. Harwood and Wheeler have promised to make Nigel regret coming back and to humble Garcia with good old-fashioned tag team wrestling. The atmosphere around this bout is electric: fans are eager to see Nigel McGuinness back in action, and equally eager to see if FTR will get their comeuppance. Will the unlikely duo of McGuinness and Garcia pull off a heartwarming victory, or will FTR’s aggression and experience prove too much?
Paragon (AEW TNT Champion Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong) vs. The Don Callis Family (Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher and Josh Alexander) – Trios Match
On paper, this is TNT Champion Adam Cole and his Paragon stablemates Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong taking on Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher and Josh Alexander of the Don Callis Family. But beneath the surface, it’s a battle of philosophies and egos between Cole and Callis.
In recent weeks, Don Callis – the self-proclaimed mastermind – has been a thorn in the side of many AEW stars, and now Adam Cole has had enough. The issue boiled over on the May 22 Collision, where Cole was serving as a guest commentator and Callis joined the booth, leading to verbal fireworks. When Callis’s men attempted a post-match beatdown on Jay Lethal, Cole and Paragon ran in to make the save. Seizing the moment, Cole challenged the Callis Family to face his trio at Double or Nothing, and Callis smugly accepted the next time he was at the desk.
Thus, this match was born out of Cole’s desire to shut Callis up and prove that AEW is not the Don Callis Family’s for the taking. Expect a fast-paced, highly skilled encounter here. We have everything from Cole’s superkicks and charisma, O’Reilly’s submission expertise, Strong’s back-breakers, to Takeshita’s explosive knee strikes, Fletcher’s agility, and Alexander’s brute force. It’s a true trios showcase.
AEW Double or Nothing Buy In Pre-Show: Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford vs. Anna Jay and Harley Cameron
Before the main card gets underway, AEW will present a special Buy-In pre-show tag team match. Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford are set to face Anna Jay and Harley Cameron in a contest rife with animus. The tension between these teams escalated through a series of confrontations and matches over the past six weeks. A pivotal moment occurred when Bayne defeated Jay on the May 17 episode of AEW Collision, leading to a post-match brawl involving all four competitors. The Megasus clearly has the power advantage any time these women step in the ring, but Cameron and Jay have found ways to even the odds along the way. Can one of these duos make a decisive statement on Sunday evening?
AEW Double or Nothing Buy In Pre-Show: RPG Vice (Trent Beretta & Rocky Romero) and CRU (Lio Rush & Action Andretti) vs. AR Fox, ROH World Champion Bandido and Los Titanes Del Aire (Hologram & Komander)
What better way to prime ourselves for Double or Nothing than with a high-octane 8-man tag team match?
