Championship gold will be on the line tonight in THREE matches when AEW Dynamite is LIVE at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on TBS and streaming on HBO Max, from Austin, Texas!
AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander defends against the woman who pinned her in Trios action two weeks ago, “The Toxic Spider” Thekla. AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR try to turn away a huge challenge from the Don Callis Family’s powerful combo, Mark Davis and Jake Doyle. And Davis and Doyle won’t be the only Family members looking for gold, as El Clon looks to capture the TNT Title from fighting champion Mark Briscoe!
Meanwhile, Swerve Strickland has made it clear he wants to regain the AEW World Championship, but Andrade El Ídolo, after asserting his dominance once again on Collision, said Swerve stands in the way of his AEW World Title aspirations. Tonight, they’ll battle one-on-one for the first time!
Plus, AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley will have his hands full with Bang Bang Gang’s Ace Austin in a Continental Championship Eliminator! Kenny Omega will try to make it two wins in two weeks against the Don Callis Family when he takes on the sneaky style of Rocky Romero. And AEW World Champion MJF will be live on Dynamite tonight in Texas
All that and more will go down tonight in Texas! Here’s your complete AEW Dynamite preview for January 28, 2026.
AEW Dynamite Matches, Preview for Wednesday, January 28
AEW Women’s World Championship Match: Kris Statlander (c) vs. Triangle of Madness’ Thekla
When Thekla pinned AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander two weeks ago in a Trios Match, it didn’t take Statlander long to ask Thekla when she wanted her shot at the AEW Women’s World Title. Thekla called her shot for tonight’s Dynamite, as she’s been constant with her total disapproval of everything Statlander stands for as a champion. Thekla was part of the 4-Way at All Out last September when Statlander pinned “Timeless” Toni Storm to become AEW Women’s World Champion. Now, Thekla gets her first one-on-one shot at Statlander and the AEW Women's World Title tonight on Dynamite!
AEW World Tag Team Championship Match: FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) (c) vs. Don Callis Family’s Mark Davis & Jake Doyle
It’s hard to remember a team that’s come together as quickly and successfully as the Don Callis Family’s Jake Doyle and Mark Davis. In their debut as a team two weeks ago at Maximum Carnage, they beat JetSpeed, the Young Bucks and GOA to earn this AEW World Tag Team Championship match with FTR tonight. In fact, the two teams brawled immediately after that #1 contendership 4-Way in a brief preview of what’s to come.
While FTR have shown plenty of respect for Davis and Doyle, they’ve also made it clear that no one can touch them as the self-proclaimed greatest tag team of all time. Interestingly enough, both teams faced the upstart duo of Jordan Oliver and Alec Price in the last week. While they were both victorious, Davis and Doyle were far more destructive and decisive in their win on Collision.
How will FTR handle this duo of destruction? The AEW World Tag Team Titles will be decided tonight!
Swerve Strickland vs. Andrade El Ídolo
Former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland’s plan to get back to the AEW World Title is simple: keep winning. He did exactly that in the main event of last week’s Dynamite against “The Jet” Kevin Knight, as AEW World Champion MJF watched from a private box.
Meanwhile, Andrade El Ídolo has looked more dominant and confident than ever with back-to-back victories on Collision in the last two weeks. Andrade put the challenge out to Strickland because he sees Swerve as being in the way of his own AEW World Championship plans.
Two of the most accomplished and globally respected wrestlers will clash for the first time tonight, with AEW World Title aspirations hanging in the balance!
AEW Continental Championship Eliminator Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Bang Bang Gang’s Ace Austin
Since winning the AEW Continental Championship at Worlds End, Jon Moxley has turned away Josh Alexander and Shelton Benjamin in Continental Eliminator matches. Tonight, he’ll have to be prepared for a completely different opponent in Ace Austin.
Travel difficulties originally got in the way of Austin getting a fight on Collision, so tonight, he'll get one against Mox. If Austin beats Moxley or lasts the 20-minute like limit, he'll get a future AEW Continental Championship match!
Kenny Omega vs. Rocky Romero of the Don Callis Family
Another man on the hunt to regain the AEW World Championship is Kenny Omega. Last week, he took his first step in that journey with a hard-fought victory over “Walking Weapon” Josh Alexander. After the match, Omega said no one in the Don Callis Family can beat him in his current condition, but Romero wants to take his shot at Omega tonight! These two first battled in ROH back in 2010 and spent plenty of time together in NJPW, so if there’s someone who knows Omega well, it’s Romero.
AEW World Champion MJF Appears Live in Austin!
AEW World Champion MJF will be LIVE on Dynamite, but who will he have to deal with tonight, with a host of challengers circling?
To that point, MJF opened Dynamite last week to lay out plans for his second reign as AEW World Champion, only to be interrupted by Brody King, who challenged MJF right there and then! After denying King, MJF ran his mouth a little too much and bailed before King could do any damage. MJF spent the rest of the night keeping a close eye on the victories of potential challengers in Samoa Joe, Kenny Omega and Swerve Strickland.
What does MJF have planned for tonight?
TNT Championship Match: Mark Briscoe (c) vs. El Clon of the Don Callis Family
Not satisfied with his recent successful TNT Title defense against the Don Callis Family’s Hechicero, Mark Briscoe has taken aim at another Family member in El Clon. Briscoe holds El Clon responsible for putting the Conglomeration’s Hologram on the shelf, so he called out Clon to face him for the TNT Title. Plus, whoever walks away with the TNT Championship will defend the title this Saturday when Collision returns to Arlington!
