AEW Dynamite Preview

Tonight, AEW Dynamite is LIVE at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on TBS and streaming on HBO Max from the Siegel Center in Richmond, Virginia. As we are just over three weeks away from AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, there’s quite a bit of road left to travel before then, with two championship matches and two Owen Hart Foundation Tournament matches on tap for tonight!

Three-time AEW World Champion MJF makes his first title defense against the red-hot RUSH, who confronted the new champion on last week's Dynamite after winning the Superstation Showcase and demanding the opportunity. TNT Champion “The Jet” Kevin Knight puts the TNT Title on the line against his former JetSpeed partner "Speedball" Mike Bailey. JetSpeed went down in flames last week when Knight attacked Bailey, which brought an unfortunate end to one of the most exciting duos in AEW.

The Owen Hart Foundation Men's Tournament Semifinals get underway as Will Ospreay and AEW National Champion Mark Davis meet again with a personal score to settle and a spot in the Final on the line. And in the Owen Hart Foundation Women's Tournament, Alex Windsor faces a Wild Card opponent in her quarterfinal match.

Here's everything you need to know heading into another huge Dynamite!

AEW Dynamite Matches, Preview for Richmond

AEW World Championship Match: MJF (c) vs. RUSH

Last week, MJF made sure everyone knew he was a three-time AEW World Champion and that he did it all by age 30. After doing what he does best, which is talk about how great he is, MJF was interrupted by Mark Briscoe, who reminded MJF that when they last met, it was Briscoe who won the Tables N’ Tacks Match, so that should put him in line for a shot at the AEW World Title!

MJF denied Briscoe’s demand due to Briscoe’s image and MJF’s interest in doing what was in the best interests of business, so RUSH came out to get in MJF's face and demand his shot. MJF granted RUSH the opportunity because he was a better fit than Briscoe as a challenger. But now, MJF has to face one of the most physically devastating and dangerous competitors on the roster.

RUSH has been on a tear. He won the Superstation Showcase over Lio Rush, Brian Cage and AEW World Trios Champion Orange Cassidy last week before making the challenge, and he comes into tonight riding a seven-match win streak over AEW and ROH. However, MJF has the lone victory between the two, which actually happened in Virginia almost two years ago on Dynamite. Can MJF once again back up his claim to being the greatest professional wrestler in the world, or does RUSH give him The Horns en route to AEW Championship glory?

TNT Championship Match: "The Jet" Kevin Knight (c) vs. "Speedball" Mike Bailey

JetSpeed was one of the most electric tag team combinations we’ve ever seen, but the key to that statement is the word “was.” Last week, after The Jet showed no remorse for his attack on Darby Allin at AEW Double or Nothing, Bailey tried to reason with Knight and get him to take it all back. The Jet responded by blindsiding Bailey with a microphone, leaving him laid out in the ring to put an official end to JetSpeed. An angry and emotional Bailey later issued a challenge to Knight, and tonight, the TNT Championship is on the line between two former allies who now have no reason to hold anything back.

Bailey knows Knight better than almost anyone. He even told him that last week, when he called out what he dubbed Knight’s impatience that has led to mistakes. Of course, Knight knows Bailey just as well. Perhaps the biggest advantage Bailey has, then, is history. He’s 3-0 lifetime against Knight, including a win in last year’s Continental Classic at Collision Winter is Coming. Will Bailey stay undefeated against Knight and win his first AEW singles gold? Or will The Jet fly to victory over his old partner and leave JetSpeed in his rearview mirror for good?

Owen Hart Foundation Men's Tournament Semifinal: Will Ospreay vs. AEW National Champion Mark Davis of the Don Callis Family

We get our first taste of semifinal action in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament tonight in a rematch that goes beyond the Owen Cup. The last time these two met, on April 22, Davis beat Ospreay by medical stoppage after a terrifying apron piledriver. And that night, the Death Riders protected Ospreay from further injury – and Jon Moxley then offered the training Ospreay has been undertaking ever since.

For Ospreay, who has spoken at length about what winning this tournament would mean to him, that loss to Davis is a wound that hasn't fully healed. On Tuesday, Ospreay posted about the last meeting and admitted, “In that moment I believed if I got back in the ring I could beat Davis; watching this back now, I would’ve not only lost the match but lost more of my career. Wednesday night will be my biggest challenge since coming back. I’ll either [leave] with my hand raised or die trying.”

Ospreay beat Samoa Joe in a first-ever meeting at Double or Nothing to advance to the Owen Cup Semifinals. Davis beat Jack Perry in the Quarterfinals himself on last week's Dynamite to set up this rematch. These two battle-tested stars have a chance to punch their ticket to the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Final. Who moves one step closer to Wembley? We can’t wait to find out tonight in Richmond!

Owen Hart Foundation Women's Tournament Quarterfinal: Wild Card vs. NJPW STRONG Women's Champion Alex Windsor

When Willow Nightingale was forced to withdraw from the Owen Hart Foundation Women's Tournament due to a shoulder injury — and also forced to relinquish the AEW TBS Championship — Alex Windsor was left without an opponent. Tonight, a Wild Card entrant steps in to fill that spot, so there’s no way for Windsor to prepare other than how she always does, and that’s being more than ready to fight to prove she’s one of the greatest in the world.

Windsor, much like her other half, Ospreay, wants to live out the dream of wrestling for a world title at All In: London, and winning the Owen Cup at Forbidden Door would make that dream a reality. But the road begins tonight in Richmond for both Windsor and the unknown commodity that is the Wild Card! Who will await Hazuki or Persephone in the Owen Cup Semifinals?
