AEW Dynamite Tonight: Preview for May 7
Samoa Joe vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Samoa Joe goes one-on-one with Claudio Castagnoli in a battle fueled by bad blood. After the Death Riders brutally attacked HOOK and Katsuyori Shibata recently, Joe is out for payback on behalf of his allies. This clash comes just one week before The Samoan Submission Machine steps into a steel cage with Jon Moxley at Dynamite: Beach Break for the AEW World Championship. Expect a hard-hitting encounter as Joe looks to gain momentum and a measure of retribution against Moxley’s BCC teammate, while Claudio aims to soften up Mox’s challenger ahead of the cage match.
Swerve Strickland, “Speedball” Mike Bailey & Mark Briscoe vs. Ricochet & The Young Bucks – Trios Match
A heated trios match will pit Swerve Strickland and allies “Speedball” Mike Bailey & Mark Briscoe against the high-flying trio of Ricochet and The Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson). Last week, the EVPs orchestrated a sneak attack on Swerve. Now, Swerve teams with two partners who have their own scores to settle: Bailey and Briscoe have been at odds with Ricochet and The Elite in recent weeks as well. With pride and payback on the line, these six men will collide in what promises to be an explosive showdown in Detroit.
Kazuchika Okada vs. Kevin Knight – AEW Continental Championship Eliminator Match
“The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada will compete in singles action on Dynamite for the first time since winning the 2024 Continental Classic. His opponent, “The Jet” Kevin Knight, is a rising star who’s impressed the AEW faithful lately by going toe-to-toe with The Elite in multi-man matches. Knight now earns a huge opportunity in this Continental Title Eliminator: if he can defeat Okada, he’ll secure a future shot at the championship. Okada, one of the world’s most decorated wrestlers, isn’t known to take any challenger lightly. Will the young high-flyer Knight shock the world, or will Okada demonstrate why he sits atop the wrestling mountain?
We’ll Hear from Will Ospreay
The Aerial Assassin Will Ospreay is scheduled for a live interview tonight. Ospreay is one of the two finalists in the 2025 Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament, set to face “Hangman” Adam Page at Double or Nothing. Ospreay’s path to the Owen Cup final has been filled with incredible athletic performances, and now all that stands between him and the Cup is Hangman Page. Whatever Ospreay has to say, fans won’t want to miss the charismatic Brit’s mic time tonight on AEW Dynamite.
AEW Women’s World Title Eliminator 4-Way: Toni Storm vs. Thunder Rosa vs. Penelope Ford vs. Anna Jay
AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm comes for everyone, and this week, she’s up against one of her boldest challenges yet: she will face three contenders at once in a four-way eliminator match. In recent weeks, Storm has been in the midst of a self-proclaimed “red carpet” open challenge, taking on all comers to prove she’s a fighting champion. So far, she has turned back one challenger after another, but tonight in Detroit she’ll have to survive against multiple opponents simultaneously.
Former Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa would love to earn another title shot by pinning the current champ. Penelope Ford, a crafty veteran, and Anna Jay, the hungry young star, round out the field – each eager to score arguably the biggest victory of her career.
Can the Timeless champion once again claim the spotlight and overcome the odds? Either way, this four-way matchup promises high drama in the Motor City.
“Hangman” Adam Page Appears Live
The other Owen Hart Cup finalist, “Hangman” Adam Page, will be live in Detroit tonight as well. Last week, Hangman punched his ticket to the men’s Owen final by defeating Kyle Fletcher in a hard-fought semifinal. Now, he’s on a collision course with Will Ospreay at Double or Nothing.
The former AEW World Champion has been laser-focused on adding the Owen Hart Cup to his accolades, and his hometown crowd in Virginia gave him a hero’s sendoff to the finals last week. Tonight, the Detroit audience will hear from Hangman as he gears up for one of the biggest matches of his career. What message will Page have for Ospreay – and, perhaps, others?
Jamie Hayter Sits Down with Renee Paquette
Former AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter will join Renee Paquette for an exclusive sit-down interview. Much like Hangman Page and Ospreay, Hayter has battled her way to the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament – in her case, the Women’s Owen Hart Cup. Jamie defeated Kris Statlander in the semifinal, and now she’s set to face the inimitable Mercedes Moné in the tournament final at Double or Nothing. Tonight, Hayter will speak with Renee about this upcoming challenge and her road to the Owen Cup final. It’s a rare chance to hear Hayter’s unfiltered thoughts outside of the ring. How is she preparing to go one-on-one with Mercedes Moné on a massive stage? Has the pressure of carrying the Owen legacy motivated her even more? Renee Paquette will ask those questions and more.
