We welcomed Jim Ross back to AEW, appropriately enough, in his home state of Oklahoma, for the first AEW Dynamite of the year on TBS and HBO Max! And what a wild night it was in Tulsa!
In the main event, “Hangman” Adam Page and Swerve Strickland took full advantage of the Lights Out stipulation with cinder blocks and liberal use of steel chains. Despite an attack from The Opps Dojo members, Page and Strickland took care of business when Page hanged HOOK over the top rope!
The Continental Championship Eliminator saw a battle to the buzzer, as champion Jon Moxley turned a Shelton Benjamin submission attempt into a pinfall with just five seconds remaining in the 20-minute time limit!
ROH World Champion Bandido beat ROH World Tag Team Champion Sammy Guevara and was immediately confronted by his opponent for next week, AEW World Champion MJF. Bandido ended up standing tall after hitting MJF with a 21 Plex. Those two meet for the AEW World Championship next week at Maximum Carnage!
Plus, with JetSpeed taken out by the newest member of the Don Callis Family, Jake Doyle, “Jungle” Jack Perry had to find new partners, which he did in a resurgent, reborn version of the Young Bucks. The trio successfully took care of The Demand in six-man action, but were then attacked by the Callis Family, including the returning Andrade El Idolo!
All that and more happened on a crazy Wednesday night! Here’s how it all went down on the first Dynamite of the year from Tulsa!

Newest Don Callis Family Member Jake Doyle Collects the Bounty on JetSpeed!
Before Dynamite got underway, Renee Paquette broke news that apparently the bounty had been collected on “Speedball” Mike Bailey and “The Jet” Kevin Knight. The Demand and Don Callis showed up and tried to play dumb about the whole situation and their parts in putting up the money until Callis revealed his newest Family member, Jake Doyle, had collected the bounty! Doyle stood alongside Mark Davis as Callis hyped up his newest addition and a pair of very dangerous men! “Jungle” Jack Perry would need to find two new partners to face The Demand later tonight.
AEW Continental Championship Eliminator: Jon Moxley (c) def. Shelton Benjamin
Jon Moxley answered a handshake offering from Shelton Benjamin with a slap to the hand to open the festivities, so Benjamin threw Moxley around for the first 30 seconds of the match. Benjamin kept the heat on and nearly put Moxley away with a knockout shot in the opening minutes. Benjamin snatched Moxley with a German suplex and continued the punishment on Moxley in the corner. Moxley fired back with chops, but Benjamin cut that off and moved Mox back into the corner with a huge overhand chop to the chest.
Moxley stopped a Benjamin charge with a big boot and clotheslined Benjamin to the floor. Moxley followed up with strikes on the guardrail. Moxley tried to send Benjamin into another barricade, but he put the brakes on and turned it around on Moxley. Benjamin sent Moxley into the crowd and followed him into the fans! The two fought up and down the stairs, but it was Moxley who took control with a headlock as he returned to the ringside area. As noted on commentary, referee Paul Turner was lenient with the countout. Just then, Benjamin came flying off the barricade to take out Moxley!
After breaking the count, Benjamin threw Moxley to the floor with another German suplex! He went for another, but Moxley blocked it, and Benjamin wound up going elbow-first into the ring steps! Back in the ring, Moxley put Benjamin in a double wristlock until Benjamin escaped and both men took each other out with clotheslines.
As the halfway point passed, Moxley went to the top rope, but in classic Benjamin fashion, he ran up the ropes to meet Moxley and threw him from the top to the mat! Benjamin chopped and kicked at Moxley until Moxley cut him off with an eye gouge. Benjamin came back with a splash in the corner and tried for another, but missed. Benjamin missed a corkscrew kick, so Moxley fired off a desperation lariat, which put both men on the mat!
Moxley tried a piledriver, but Benjamin escaped and went behind for another German suplex! Benjamin followed with FIVE more German suplexes, but Moxley kicked out! Moxley stumbled to his feet and defiantly slapped Benjamin, so Benjamin kicked him in the side of the head! Benjamin charged at Moxley, but Mox was ready with a cutter! This time, Benjamin kicked out at two! Five minutes remain!
Moxley mounted Benjamin in the corner for punches, so Benjamin answered with a powerbomb out of the corner! Benjamin tied Moxley up at the legs and wrenched back on his face until Moxley survived long enough to make it to the ropes. Benjamin went over the top when Moxley pulled a low bridge, which Moxley immediately followed with a dive that connected. Back in the ring, Moxley measured Benjamin, but Benjamin hit Pay Dirt! Moxley kicked out at two!
Benjamin put Moxley on the top rope, so Moxley struck back to knock Benjamin to the mat. When Moxley came off the top, Benjamin avoided him and kicked Moxley in the back of the left leg, and then another kick to the face! Benjamin got the cover, but Moxley got out at two!
Moxley fell into the corner, which Benjamin took advantage of with a running knee to Moxley’s jaw! Moxley blocked another boot and swung Benjamin into a Paradigm Shift! Benjamin kicked out at two!
With a minute to go, Moxley tried to capture Benjamin in the bulldog choke but couldn’t lock it in and got frustrated. Benjamin took that brief moment to clobber Moxley with a step-up knee to the face! 1-2-kickout! With 30 seconds to go, Benjamin put Moxley in a triangle choke, but before he went down, Moxley went up on his toes to pin Benjamin for a three count with less than five seconds left in the match!
After the match, Moxley offered Benjamin a respectful handshake, which Benjamin accepted.
Darby Allin is on the Hunt!
Darby Allin appeared in the back on his skateboard, clearly looking for PAC behind every door.
We took a look back at the events of Wrestle Kingdom, where “The Ace” Hiroshi Tanahashi wrestled the final match of his legendary career, a last classic with his longtime rival, “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada. Okada was victorious, as Tanahashi waved goodbye to end his in-ring journey. Congratulations to New Japan Pro-Wrestling President Hiroshi Tanahashi on a fantastic career!
Kenny Omega Returns Next Week at Maximum Carnage!
We saw a recap of Kenny Omega’s comments from last week towards AEW World Champion MJF ahead of the announcement that Omega will return next week at AEW Dynamite Maximum Carnage!
Trios Match: “Jungle” Jack Perry & The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) def. The Demand (AEW National Champion Ricochet, Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun)
After JetSpeed was taken out earlier in the night, Perry needed new partners and got them in the form of the returning Matt and Nick Jackson, the Young Bucks, who seem to have reverted to beloved Superkick Party days in both music and attire!
The three charged the ring at Ricochet, Liona, and Kaun, and we are underway! Perry and Ricochet immediately spilled to the floor. The Bucks hit a double dropkick to send GOA to the outside, and Nick followed with a dive through Matt’s legs to take out GOA. Perry went to the top and nailed a moonsault to take out GOA, as they continued to get the brunt of this offense. Perry got back in the ring with a spear on Ricochet, which turned into Perry and the Bucks triple-teaming Ricochet in the corner, followed by a triple dropkick to Ricochet!
The Bucks and Perry completely isolated Ricochet in their corner with quick tags and their classic offense. Perry hit a diving DDT, but Kaun broke up the pin attempt. GOA got sent to the outside, so the Bucks followed with stereo dives. Perry hit a draping DDT to Ricochet while the Bucks hit a double-team senton to Kaun on the outside. Ricochet kicked out at two!
Perry got sent to Kaun, who whipped him all around the ringside area between the barricade and apron before Liona sent Perry into the timekeeper’s area onto the doctor! Perry was in dire straits, as The Demand celebrated by posing on the apron.
After Perry got dominated for several minutes, Perry hit a desperation lariat on Ricochet to finally open the door for a tag to Nick! Nick was on fire, taking out all three members of The Demand until Liona got back in, but the Bucks turned that around into a pair of superkicks followed by synchronized elbows from the top onto GOA!
Matt hit a running kick to Liona off the apron, and Nick followed with an inside-out stunner! Nick came back in the ring with a destroyer on Ricochet, who was then draped over the top for a stomp from Nick right into a powerbomb from Matt as Perry moonsaulted from the apron to GOA on the floor! Ricochet somehow kicked out!
GOA battled back to stop the Bucks and Perry before another aerial attack, and Liona put all three on his back for a triple Samoan drop! Kaun hit a superplex on Perry, which Liona followed from the other corner with a headbutt. Ricochet came back in with a springboard 450, but Perry kicked out at the last possible moment!
Perry escaped Vertigo and then ran up the turnbuckles to avoid Ricochet and hit a German suplex! Kaun splashed Perry in the corner and nailed a brainbuster! Liona stopped superkicks from the Bucks and Perry with headbutts to take them all out before Ricochet hit Perry with Vertigo! The Bucks made the save!
Ricochet called for a Spirit Gun, but Perry ducked, and Ricochet recovered with a running knee strike! He put Perry on his shoulder, so Perry turned it into a poisonrana! The Bucks came back with superkicks on Ricochet and then Kaun and then Liona, although it took seven superkicks from Perry and the Bucks to put him down.
With Ricochet on Matt Jackson’s shoulders, Perry ran to the top while Nick took out GOA on the outside. Perry hit a Doomsday Device to Ricochet, which the Bucks followed with a BTE Trigger! They propped up Ricochet for Perry, who hit his running knee to get the pinfall victory!
Mark Davis and Jake Doyle attacked Perry and the Bucks from behind as they were celebrating, with Davis and Doyle handling the Bucks in the ring while Don Callis shouted orders, with Lance Archer and El Clon standing by at ringside. Despite being clearly injured, JetSpeed ran out with hockey sticks to help even the score! They took out Archer and Clon, but when they got in the ring, the lights went out!
When they came back on, a masked man in a suit appeared and attacked Knight and Bailey! He unmasked to reveal Andrade El Idolo! He is back with the Don Callis Family, as they stood tall over the Bucks, Perry, and JetSpeed! As The Demand looked on from the aisle, AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR appeared on top of the ramp with Big Stoke in a wheelchair.
Mercedes Moné Goes Through It at Willow Nightingale’s TBS Championship Celebration
Renee Paquette welcomed the new TBS Champion and one-half of the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions, Willow Nightingale! Nightingale was accompanied by the other half of the Babes of Wrath, Harley Cameron, and AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander.
Nightingale knew it was time to stop and smell the roses because she’s here with her tag team partner, Harley Cameron, and is reunited with both her TBS Championship and her friend, the AEW Women’s World Champion, Kris Statlander. Statlander walked over and kissed Nightingale on the cheek! Nightingale said it was time to celebrate with cake, but wanted to address her challengers, whether they are coming for the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Titles or the TBS Championship. She’ll fight twice in one night! She also knows that someone will likely come down and crash this, so Willow invited Mercedes Moné to the ring. Moné came looking very solemn behind a veil.
Nightingale said they have so much to celebrate, and she ran down all of Moné’s accomplishments around the world, winning championships in company after company, which made her Ultimo Moné. Because of that, Nightingale had to dig deep to get her TBS Championship back, and once again, she is the Face of TBS! Willow said it was time to cut the cake and celebrate!
Moné ripped off her veil and began screaming as she flipped the table covered with celebratory desserts. She pushed Cameron and charged at Nightingale, who moved, sending Moné face-first into a cake held by Statlander. Moné turned around into a Babe with the Powerbomb by Nightingale into the cake! Everyone celebrated with a conga line!
Mark Briscoe Addresses his Collision Opponent, Hechicero
After beating Komander with some help from El Clon on Collision, Hechicero has a TNT Title shot against Mark Briscoe this Saturday on Collision back in Arlington, Texas.
Briscoe came to us from his farm in Delaware and wanted to wish Willow Nightingale congratulations on winning the TBS Title. He said it’s a new year, but he’s been TNT Champion since November, and he only has one defense because he’s been sitting back watching, recuperating, regenerating. But it’s been too long since he whooped a man’s ass.
He’s tickled that Hechicero has the shot this Saturday because it brings it back to where it all started with this reign and the Don Callis Family. Briscoe said it was time to tell the future, and this Saturday, the TNT Championship ain’t going anywhere, just like the TBS Championship ain’t going anywhere. The Women’s World Tag Team Titles aren’t going anywhere. The phrase of the day is “reign and defend!”
Triangle of Madness vs. Kris Statlander & Babes of Wrath Set for Maximum Carnage!
Thekla mockingly clapped for Kris Statlander for finally finding some friends, but she, along with Julia Hart and Skye Blue, wondered when Statlander would hit Willow with a light tube or spit in Harley’s face. Thekla challenged Statlander, Nightingale and Cameron to face Triangle of Madness!
ROH World Champion Bandido def. ROH World Tag Team Champion Sammy Guevara; MJF Confronts Bandido
Bandido offered Guevara a handshake, which Guevara responded to with a middle finger. Guevara took a brief advantage before Bandido forced Guevara to the outside to avoid further damage. Bandido sent Guevara back to the outside and hit a kick from the apron. Guevara spat something into the eye of Bandido and followed with a DDT from the steel steps!
Guevara almost taunted Bandido too much instead of taking advantage of the damage he already did on the outside, which is why Bandido was able to battle back with a clothesline in the corner, followed by a jumping heel kick. He hit a tornillo and then lifted Guevara with one hand for a powerful press slam! Bandido pump-kicked Guevara to the floor and glided over the top with a huge dive to Guevara!
Guevara avoided Bandido, and then monkey-flipped Bandido to the outside. Guevara scaled the ropes and hit a shooting star press onto Bandido on the floor! Guevara is bleeding from the nose, but is fired up! Bandido reversed two GTH attempts and tried a 21 Plex, but Guervara turned that into a cutter! Bandido kicked out at two! Bandido came back with a cutter and went for the 21 Plex, but Guevara landed on his feet and flipped off Bandido! He hit a flying knee, struck and dumped Bandido on his head, but Bandido was able to kick out again. Guevara took too much time talking trash, so Bandido blocked his kick attempt and nailed Guevara with a knee of his own before a 21 Plex to get the pinfall. Bandido had no time to celebrate before the music of AEW World Champion MJF hit. He came down to the ring with Jonathan Cruz and a microphone.
MJF told everyone to give Bandido a round of applause. MJF said if anyone knows anything about Lucha Libre, it’s him. He’s sold out Arena Mexico, he was the CMLL Heavyweight Champion, and he even beat Místico. He’s a Lucha Libre legend. He’s even bigger than Mísitico.
Then, MJF had Cruz translate for Bandido and then insulted Tulsa. MJF said he has six Dynamite Diamond Rings, so Bandido should hand over the Dynamite Diamond Ring he has, and they can cancel the match because everyone knows MJF is gonna beat him anyway. Bandido reminded MJF he can speak English and called the AEW World Champion, “a stupid son of a bitch!” MJF ended up kicking Bandido low and took the ring, but when he went to hit Bandido again, he ducked, and Cruz got nailed instead. Bandido took that opportunity to hit a 21 Plex on Cruz and then another on MJF! He picked up the AEW World Championship in what could be a preview of next week!
Brody King Says Violence is the Answer
We took a special look at Brody King, who said he uses violence in the ring and in his music because sometimes, violence is the answer. He doesn’t yell and scream, but would rather let his violence speak for itself. He’s coming for the world!
“Timeless” Toni Storm def. “The Problem” Marina Shafir by disqualification
Shafir worked multiple submissions from the jump, although Storm never let her get into anything for very long. Storm knocked Shafir to the apron and hit a running hip attack to send Shafir to the floor. After dragging Shafir around the ring, Storm threw her back in and stopped to yell at Daniel Garcia and Wheeler Yuta. Shafir used her legs to drag Storm back in by her head, but Storm reversed it into a pin attempt. Shafir picked up Storm and dropped her with a uranage.
Shafir kept the advantage for a few minutes and kept the heat on by putting a headscissors on Storm over the ropes, followed by a kick to the head. Shafir stacked Storm for a two-count and then mockingly danced Storm around the ring before throwing her to the mat. Shafir ripcorded Storm into multiple strikes to the back and head before Storm came flying out of the corner with a big boot. Storm fired up for a hip attack, but Shafir broke it up with a big boot of her own. Storm came back with an up kick and used The Big Package, but Yuta pulled out the referee, and he called for the disqualification!
Shafir didn’t care and knocked out Storm, which brought out Mina Shirakawa, whom Shafir also dropped as soon as she hit the ring. With Luther pleading for Shafir to stop, Orange Cassidy and Roderick Strong came out, and the Death Riders left until Claudio Castagnoli nearly came back after Cassidy before exiting. Back in the ring, Cassidy picked up both Storm and Shirakawa, clearly having his hands full.
Darby Allin Forces PAC to Give Him a Rematch
Renee Paquette was in the back with PAC and asked when he would give Darby Allin a rematch. PAC said he beat Allin twice, so there’s nothing left to do. Allin showed up and demanded the match, which PAC denied multiple times. PAC went to walk away, so Allin sprayed him with a fire extinguisher and threw him into a garage can before nailing PAC with his skateboard. Allin put PAC’s ankle in the door frame and threatened to break it if he didn’t agree to the match. PAC agreed, so Allin left the scene as the Death Riders arrived to run him off.
Lights Out: “Hangman” Adam Page & Swerve Strickland def. The Opps’ HOOK & Powerhouse Hobbs
This match is unsanctioned, and the referee is only there to call for the decision. With the lights out and flickering, the match got underway! Hobbs saved HOOK from Swerve on the apron, but Swerve was able to avoid Hobbs’ attack with a chair.
Hangman hit a top-rope moonsault to Hobbs on the floor, while Swerve dropped HOOK on the apron with a Death Valley Driver! Swerve threw HOOK into the ring, where Page was waiting with a chain. HOOK quickly bailed to the outside, so Page followed, but was flattened by Hobbs. Swerve took Hobbs down, but HOOK went after Swerve. HOOK hit Swerve with a nasty head-and-neck suplex on the apron!
HOOK and Hobbs isolated Page in the ring, with HOOK putting Page through a table with a Northern Lights suplex. Page kicked out at two! HOOK brought a chair into the ring and stuffed it in the corner, but Page fought away from Hobbs and sent him into the chair! Page got a staple gun and stapled HOOK in the back and chest before putting him down with a pop-up powerbomb! Page tried to staple Hobbs, but was blocked and swatted to the outside. Hobbs put up Swerve for a vertical suplex, but Swerve kept stapling Hobbs to get out of it. Finally, Page came in with a piece of drywall to nail Hobbs before stapling Hobbs in the lower extremities. Page dropped Hobbs with a tornado elbow strike!
On the outside, Page and Swerve pulled a pallet of cinder blocks from under the ring and put it on the mat. HOOK escaped before Page and Swerve could do any damage, but Hobbs cleared Page away with a chair. Swerve hit a German suplex, but Hobbs shook it off to clothesline Swerve. He had Swerve’s head on the cinder blocks and was ready to swing the chair, only for Prince Nana to run in and steal the chair. Hobbs squished Nana in the corner, so Swerve nailed Hobbs. Swerve hit Hobbs with three chair shots and went to the top, but Hobbs caught him and hit a world’s strongest slam into the cinder blocks! Page made the save on the pin attempt!
Page tried to set up Hobbs for the Buckshot Lariat, but HOOK pulled Page off the apron, and members of The Opps Dojo ran out with weapons to attack Swerve and Page. The assault continued in the ring, as Page and Swerve had the chain wrapped around their necks. Before anything else could go down, Nana got back up and threw hot coffee in Hobbs’ face. Swerve and Page fought off The Opps Dojo while HOOK suplexed Nana. Hobbs went for Page, but nailed HOOK off the apron by mistake. Page tried a Buckshot Lariat only for Hobbs to turn it into a spinebuster! Swerve broke up the pin attempt with a House Call! Swerve went to the top and took out all the dojo members with a Swerve Stomp to the floor! Page grabbed Hobbs for a Deadeye, and Swerve came off the top with a stomp to Hobbs onto the cinder blocks!
HOOK came back in and pushed Page into Swerve and rolled up Page for a two count. HOOK put REDRUM on Page, but Page broke it up by ramming HOOK into the corner. HOOK tried to hit Swerve with a pipe, so Page grabbed it, and HOOK ate a headbutt from Swerve. Page hit an elbow strike on HOOK with his arm wrapped in a chain. Swerve followed with a House Call, and Page hit a Buckshot Lariat. He hanged HOOK over the top rope by the chain, and HOOK tapped out! That will do it from Tulsa!
