AEW Tailgate Brawl Matches, Preview for Saturday, October 18
Tag Team Match: FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) vs. JetSpeed (“Speedball” Mike Bailey and “The Jet” Kevin Knight)
What began as “Speedball” Mike Bailey and “The Jet” Kevin Knight coming to back up Willow Nightingale following FTR’s heinous actions toward Beth Copeland at AEW All Out has turned into a heated rivalry over the last month.
FTR defeated JetSpeed in the AEW World Tag Team Title Eliminator Tournament back in July, but Knight beat Dax Harwood on Collision two weeks ago, so both sides have had success against each other. More recently, last week on AEW Collision Homecoming, Cash Wheeler, Harwood and Megan Bayne (the Top Gods) defeated JetSpeed and Nightingale.
However, with hostilities still rising, this tag team showdown was made for AEW Tailgate Brawl. Can FTR follow through on their stated intention to put JetSpeed behind them so they can focus back on the AEW World Tag Team Championship? We’ll find out tonight!
Tag Team Match: Harley Cameron & Willow Nightingale vs. Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford
Speaking of Willow Nightingale, she has always stuck up for what she believes in – and if you don’t like that, she’ll throw down with anyone. Just ask FTR. Unfortunately for Willow, though, Big Stoke and FTR have aligned with Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford, so the numbers haven’t been in her favor.
Bayne pinned Nightingale in the aforementioned Mixed Trios Match on AEW Collision Homecoming last weekend, thanks to a big assist behind the referee’s back from Ford. Ford and Bayne then continued the assault on Nightingale after the match, until Harley Cameron hit the ring to stop them and save Willow! Bayne subsequently got a measure of revenge on Cameron when she defeated Harley this past Wednesday on Dynamite.
But now, Nightingale and Cameron are united and ready for a fair fight, so they’ll take on Bayne and Ford in tag team action!
8-Man Tag Match: The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly and Tomohiro Ishii) & Roderick Strong vs. Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Daniel Garcia and PAC)
Roderick Strong made it clear he’s not part of The Conglomeration, even if his Paragon partner Kyle Fletcher is, but he’ll do anything to fight the Death Riders. So tonight, he’ll stand alongside O’Reilly, Orange Cassidy and Tomohiro Ishii to face Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Daniel Garcia and PAC in a massive 8-Man Tag Match on Tailgate Brawl.
The Death Riders bring the momentum into this match after wins on AEW Dynamite and Collision this past week. Castagnoli defeated Strong in singles competition, and later in the night, Yuta and Garcia beat Cassidy and O’Reilly. However, they had some assistance from Marina Shafir, Castagnoli, and PAC to get the job done. That led to a post-match attack, which brought Strong and Ishii down to make the save. Tonight, all eight men will be in action in this hotly contested rivalry!
Eddie Kingston & HOOK Will Be in Action!
Kingston made a triumphant in-ring return and formed a new partnership with HOOK last month at All Out. After picking up wins against Dralístico and The Beast Mortos in recent weeks, Kingston said he wants to move past LFI and focus on the tag ranks with HOOK.
Tonight, Kingston and HOOK will make that focus a reality when they are in tag team action. What kind of tone will Kingston and HOOK set for the rest of the night?
