AEW Collision Matches, Preview for Saturday, January 17
AEW World Trios Championship Match: The Opps (Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs and Katsuyori Shibata) (c) vs. “Hangman” Adam Page & JetSpeed (“Speedball” Mike Bailey and “The Jet” Kevin Knight)
“Hangman” Adam Page is locked in on taking everything from Samoa Joe and The Opps, so tonight, he’s coming for the AEW World Trios Championship – and he’s not coming alone.
After JetSpeed came up short on Dynamite in their bid to become the next challengers for the AEW World Tag Team Championship, Page enlisted their help to tag with him against The Opps for the AEW World Trios Title. Page and JetSpeed have tagged before, both in Trios and 8-Man Tag Matches last year, so can they build on that chemistry to wrest the AEW World Trios Title from The Opps?
Winner Gets A Shot at AEW National Championship: “Jungle” Jack Perry vs. Anthony Bowens
“Jungle” Jack Perry has been after AEW National Champion Ricochet ever since they met in 8-Man Tag action at Worlds End, where Perry pinned Ricochet. That helped earn him an AEW National Title match at New Year’s Smash, although Ricochet was able to retain with some assistance from GOA. Then, on this week’s Dynamite Maximum Carnage, Perry took Ricochet out of the mix when he tried to get involved in GOA’s 4-Way Tag Match to determine the new #1 contenders to the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
Last week, meanwhile, it was Bowens on the losing end of a Trios Match with JetSpeed against The Demand; although it looked like he had Ricochet pinned after a Mollywhop, the AEW National Champion wasn’t the legal man.
Tonight, Bowens and Perry will do battle, with the winner earning a future shot at Ricochet’s AEW National Championship!
Andrade El Ídolo vs. Angelico
While Andrade El Ídolo has shown off his violent side since returning to the Don Callis Family, we’ve yet to see him have a proper match. Tonight in Phoenix, he makes his AEW in-ring return for the first time in over two years when he faces Angelico!
Trios Match: Don Callis Family (Kyle Fletcher, El Clon and Josh Alexander) vs. SkyFlight (Scorpio Sky, Dante and Darius Martin)
The members of the Don Callis Family have been quite busy around the globe. Tonight, they get back “The Protostar” Kyle Fletcher, who returns to action alongside El Clon and Josh Alexander against SkyFlight. Alexander is just days away from facing Kenny Omega one-on-one on Dynamite in Orlando, so he’ll be looking to send a strong message to Omega in this match. But can the Family put their sole focus on the fight that’s directly in front of them with SkyFlight? We’ll find out on Collision!
“The Problem” Marina Shafir vs. Zayda Steel
Speaking of the group, SkyFlight recently added Zayda Steel to their ranks, and she wasted no time stepping up to Marina Shafir during last week’s Trios Match between the Death Riders and SkyFlight. Unfortunately for Steel, she bit off perhaps more than she could chew when she ate a boot from Shafir and turned right into a Liger Bomb from “The Megasus” Megan Bayne. Steel will get a chance at revenge when she goes one-on-one with Shafir tonight!
Tag Match: Eddie Kingston & Ortiz vs. Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake)
This match has been brewing ever since the Grizzled Young Veterans took aim at Kingston heading into Worlds End. Kingston beat Gibson on the Worlds End Zero Hour but was attacked by Gibson and Drake after the match – until Ortiz returned to save his friend!
Tonight, these tandems finally have a chance to settle their issues in the ring when all four men do battle in what should be a hard-hitting tag team affair!
We’ll Hear from AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR!
On Dynamite Maximum Carnage, FTR brawled with Mark Davis and Jake Doyle of the Don Callis Family after the latter duo beat JetSpeed, the Young Bucks and GOA to earn a future shot at FTR’s AEW World Tag Team Championship.
What will Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler and the wheelchair-bound Big Stoke have to say about Callis’ dangerous team and their future championship showdown?
“Megasus” Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford in Action!
For the first time since October, Penelope Ford will return to in-ring action alongside Megan Bayne. Ford was steadfast in her support of Bayne and Marina Shafir during her injury absence, but tonight, it’s finally Ford’s turn to step back into the ring!
