AEW Collision Preview

AEW Collision is back in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, TONIGHT at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on TNT and streaming on HBO Max! AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door comes your way tomorrow from San Jose, California, but first, three championships will be on the line tonight.

Before they meet in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament Finals tomorrow night, defending Owen Cup Champion Mercedes Moné and Maya World will be on opposite sides of a huge tag match. Moné teams with ROH Women’s World Champion Athena to face World and her partner Hyan, as World looks to get some revenge after she was attacked by Moné and Athena last week.

The AEW World Trios Championship is up for grabs as The Conglomeration – Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong – defend against The Opps’ HOOK, Katsuyori Shibata and Anthony Bowens, which is quite the test before Cassidy, O’Reilly and Strong step inside a steel cage at Forbidden Door as part of Team Briscoe.

On the other side of that match, TNT Champion “The Jet” Kevin Knight will be part of Team DCMJF, but before that, he’ll defend the TNT Title against The Rascalz’ Dezmond Xavier. And in our third championship bout of the night, CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone puts her title on the line against Billie Starkz.

Plus, Jericho is in action against J.D. Drake of The WorkHorsemen, and “Speedball” Mike Bailey teams with the beloved Místico to battle the Premier Athletes.

It’s a huge night of the best wrestling in the world on the last stop before Forbidden Door! Here's everything you need to know about tonight's AEW Collision in Rio Rancho.

AEW Collision Matches, Card Tonight in Rio Rancho

“The CEO” Mercedes Moné & ROH Women’s World Champion Athena vs. Maya World & Hyan

Moné and World find themselves on opposite sides of a heated tag team match tonight one day before they battle in the Finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament at Forbidden Door. This match comes after Moné and Athena attacked World following her victory over Athena in the Owen Cup Semifinals.

Moné has been a force since her return, storming through the Owen Cup as a Wild Card on her way back to the Finals, where she looks to become the first person to ever repeat as tournament winner. However, World would love nothing more than to end those hopes and make her dream a reality instead.

Tonight, Moné is back with her on-again, off-again partner, Athena, while World teams up with her regular partner, Hyan. How will Moné and World handle each other before they battle for an AEW Women’s World Championship shot at All In: London tomorrow night?

AEW World Trios Championship Match: The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong) (c) vs. The Opps (HOOK, Katsuyori Shibata and Anthony Bowens)

The AEW World Trios Champions are walking into a steel cage tomorrow at Forbidden Door as part of Team Briscoe to join Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin and AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita against Team DCMJF. Cassidy, O’Reilly and Strong would like to walk into that match as champions, but The Opps would love to take the gold back tonight in New Mexico.

The Opps have held the AEW World Trios Titles before, although this combination of HOOK, Shibata and Bowens is a fairly new one. They beat BEEF and Premier Athletes on this week’s ROH on HonorClub (after which they issued the challenge to The Conglomeration), so they have some momentum heading into this title shot.

The Conglomeration have defended these titles against everyone who has stepped up, but with Forbidden Door looming, can they add one more successful defense before their steel cage showdown tomorrow in San Jose?

TNT Championship Match: Don Callis Family’s “The Jet” Kevin Knight (c) vs. The Rascalz’ Dezmond Xavier

Yet another participant in tomorrow night’s steel cage match will be in action tonight when “The Jet” Kevin Knight puts his TNT Title on the line against Dezmond Xavier of The Rascalz. While Knight is part of Team DCMJF, he’s operating with the understanding that by joining the team, he’ll be in line for his own shot at MJF’s AEW World Title.

Xavier, on the other hand, will try to do what fellow Rascalz stablemate Myron Reed wasn’t able to do two weeks ago when the latter lost to Knight on Collision. While Xavier has primarily been a tag-team wrestler in AEW, he has an abundance of singles success over his 15-year career. Can Knight survive one more test with a seventh successful TNT Title defense before Forbidden Door, or will Xavier put a major dent in The Jet’s plans?

CMLL World Women’s Championship Match: Persephone (c) vs. Billie Starkz

The CMLL World Women’s Championship is on the line tonight on Collision when Persephone defends against Billie Starkz. Persephone recently qualified for the TBS Championship Survival of the Fittest, which takes place next week on Dynamite, but before that, she’ll have a stiff challenge from a very game Startz.

Persephone has never backed down from a challenge, no matter what the stakes, and that mentality helped her take the CMLL World Women’s Championship from Mercedes Moné back in March. Starkz is a former ROH Women’s World TV Champion and one of the most gifted young stars in the women’s division. Tonight, she gets one of the biggest title opportunities of her career. Can Starkz seize the moment, or does Persephone walk into Survival of the Fittest with a chance to become a double champion?

CMLL Light Heavyweight and Trios Champion & ROH World Tag Team Champion Místico & “Speedball” Mike Bailey vs. Premier Athletes (Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari)

CMLL World Light Heavyweight and Trios Champion Místico will be part of an intriguing international three-way tag match at Forbidden Door when he and his Sky Team partner, Máscara Dorada, battle the Young Bucks and Unbound Co. tomorrow in San Jose. Last night, Dorada and Místico became ROH World Tag Team Champions when they defeated LFI’s Sammy Guevara and The Beast Mortos at CMLL’s Viernes Espectacular from Arena México. Tonight, Místico teams with someone he won the AEW World Trios Titles with earlier this year, “Speedball” Mike Bailey.

Místico lit up the skies on Wednesday night on Dynamite when he teamed with Brodido against the Death Riders, and you can bet Rio Rancho will be captivated tonight. But Nese and Daivari will not be taken lightly – nor should they be, especially with a win-at-all-costs mentality. Which duo comes away with a victory in this clash of styles?

Jericho vs. The WorkHorsemen’s JD Drake

The last time we saw Jericho, he was left bloodied and beaten by “Psycho Killer” Tommaso Ciampa one week ago on Dynamite. The two will finally go one-on-one at Dynamite Beach Break on July 8. Tonight, Jericho steps into the ring for the first time in a month to show just how serious he can be against The WorkHorsemen’s JD Drake. How will the first AEW World Champion bounce back in Rio Rancho?

Don Callis Family’s Jake Doyle vs. Adam Priest

Jake Doyle continues to be one of the most dangerous and effective weapons in the Don Callis Family’s arsenal, especially since his return from injury, which would explain why he is part of Team DCMJF in tomorrow’s steel cage match at Forbidden Door. Priest is coming off a strong effort in a loss to Zack Sabre Jr. on last week’s Collision and will not be intimidated by anyone, even a hulking figure like Doyle. Can Priest slow down Doyle, or will this be an opportunity for Doyle to show just what he can do when he’s unleashed inside the steel cage tomorrow night?
