AEW Dynamite Preview

It’s time to close out the year with a bang! Tonight is AEW Dynamite New Year’s Smash, kicking off at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on TBS and streaming on HBO Max, with all the fallout from AEW Worlds End!

MJF is the NEW AEW World Champion after defeating Samoa Joe, “Hangman” Adam Page and Swerve Strickland in a 4-Way Match at Worlds End, and we will hear from the now two-time AEW World Champ tonight in Omaha. Speaking of champions, TBS Champion Mercedes Moné will put her title on the line against the woman who pinned her at Worlds End to retain the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship, Willow Nightingale. Can Willow win back the TBS Title from the woman who took it from her last year?

Meanwhile, new AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley, who won the 2025 Continental Classic by defeating “The Protostar” Kyle Fletcher in the semifinals and former champion “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada in the final, will face “The Walking Weapon” Josh Alexander tonight in a Continental Eliminator. And the AEW National Championship will be on the line when Ricochet tries to turn away the challenge of “Jungle” Jack Perry.

All that and more will go down tonight on Dynamite New Year’s Smash in Omaha! Here’s your complete AEW Dynamite New Year’s Smash preview for December 31, 2025.

AEW Dynamite New Year’s Smash Matches, Preview for Wednesday, December 31

We’ll Hear From NEW AEW World Champion MJF

Nearly two years to the day he lost the AEW World Title, MJF reclaimed the championship this past Saturday when he pinned the man who took that title from him, Samoa Joe, at Worlds End, as part of a 4-Way Match that also included “Hangman” Adam Page and Swerve Strickland.

What will MJF have to say to start off his second reign as AEW World Champion?

TBS Championship Match: Mercedes Moné (c) vs. AEW Women's World Tag Team Champion Willow Nightingale

After Nightingale pinned Moné to secure a successful first defense of the AEW Women's World Tag Team Championship for The Babes of Wrath, these two will meet tonight for the TBS Championship!

An unhinged Moné actually made the challenge herself shortly after that defeat at Worlds End, saying she wants to beat Nightingale’s ass. Meanwhile, Willow has a literal golden opportunity to close out the year by regaining the championship she lost to Moné at Double or Nothing last year, which began this record-setting 584-day reign by Moné as TBS Champion. Will The CEO get back on track, or will her spiral continue?

AEW Continental Championship Eliminator: Jon Moxley (c) vs. “The Walking Weapon” Josh Alexander

Jon Moxley endured the grueling nature of the Continental Classic and found a way to beat both Kyle Fletcher and Kazuchika Okada at Worlds End to dethrone The Rainmaker and become the NEW Continental Champion.

As if winning two matches against the Don Callis Family at Worlds End weren't enough, Moxley will face a third member of the Family in Josh Alexander in a Continental Eliminator match tonight. Continental Rules are in effect, so there will be no outside interference, and if Alexander wins or can last the 20-minute time limit, he’ll earn a future shot at the Continental Championship! These two meet for the first time on New Year’s Smash!

AEW National Champion Ricochet (c) vs. “Jungle” Jack Perry

On Worlds End Zero Hour, The Demand and the aforementioned Josh Alexander took on Jurassic Express and JetSpeed in an 8-Man Tag, as Ricochet and GOA tried to take Perry and Luchasaurus out of the mix entirely with a pre-match attack. However, both members of Jurassic Express fought through the pain, with Perry pinning Ricochet to win the match for his team.

With that win, Perry rides a wave of momentum into tonight’s shot at the AEW National Championship. Will Perry win his first AEW gold since last November, or will Ricochet turn away this first-time one-on-one challenger?
