AEW Dynamite Preview

AEW Dynamite is LIVE tonight from Viejas Arena in San Diego, California, on TBS and HBO Max at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT, and the fallout from AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door will be felt in our first match of the night!

Team Briscoe won the six-on-six steel cage match at Forbidden Door, and Mark Briscoe had no interest in waiting to use the opportunity he just secured by pinning MJF. Briscoe called his shot, and tonight, MJF must defend the AEW World Title against Briscoe in the opening match of Dynamite.

We will crown a NEW TBS Champion tonight in AEW’s first Survival of the Fittest. After winning qualifying matches over the last month, Hikaru Shida, CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone, Kris Statlander, Harley Cameron, Queen Aminata and STARDOM’s Maika will battle it out in a six-way elimination match. The survivor will leave San Diego with the TBS Title!

With the first-ever AEW Redemption in Montreal just 25 days away and AEW All In: London 60 days out, it’s a busy summer where the best wrestle. Check out everything you need to know for tonight’s Dynamite in San Diego.

AEW Dynamite Card Tonight in San Diego

AEW World Championship: MJF (c) vs. Mark Briscoe

MJF's nightmare scenario is here. He bought the most talented team he could assemble from the Don Callis Family, but money couldn’t buy him a win on Sunday. When Mark Briscoe pinned him after a Jay Driller (and a timely defection by Andrade El Ídolo), Briscoe earned himself a shot at MJF's AEW World Title. And minutes later, he decided that shot would come tonight on Dynamite in San Diego, where the AEW Championship will be on the line in the first match of the night!

Briscoe knows he can beat MJF. He just pinned him on Sunday, and the last time these two met one-on-one, Briscoe had no problem getting his hands dirty to defeat MJF in a Tables N’ Tacks Match this past September at All Out. Plus, MJF has never kicked out of the Jay Driller. If Briscoe hits that tonight, the AEW World Title could be coming home to Sandy Fork, Delaware.

MJF did everything he could to deny and avoid giving Briscoe an AEW World Title shot, but he’s out of options and excuses. Tonight, MJF will put his beloved Triple B on the line in the first match on Dynamite, and you can be sure Briscoe will be ready for the opportunity of a lifetime.

TBS Championship Survival of the Fittest: STARDOM’s Maika vs. Harley Cameron vs. Hikaru Shida vs. CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone vs. Kris Statlander vs. Queen Aminata

What began with 12 athletes is now down to six qualifiers who will battle it out in AEW’s first-ever Survival of the Fittest, with the winner earning the vacant TBS Championship. But it won’t be one decision that crowns a new champion. Survival of the Fittest is an elimination match, so to win, you truly have to survive. This is only the second women’s Survival of the Fittest ever, with ROH Women’s World Champion Athena winning the first for a successful title defense at ROH Supercard of Honor in May. None of these women were in that match, so in that respect, they enter on even ground.

Persephone and Shida were the first to qualify for this match back on June 13 at Collision Summer Blockbuster. Statlander qualified a week later, and last week, Cameron and Aminata joined the field with wins on Dynamite. The final spot was determined this past Sunday at The Buy-In, when STARDOM’s Maika defeated Skye Blue.

Statlander is the only one of the six to have previously held the TBS Title and remains the only person to have been both AEW Women’s World Champion and TBS Champion, although Shida would join Statlander if she wins Survival of the Fittest. Meanwhile, Cameron, Aminata, Persephone and Maika will all be looking for their first singles gold in AEW.

And all of this goes down as former TBS Champion Willow Nightingale continues to train for a comeback from the injury that forced her to relinquish the title, which necessitated tonight’s Survival of the Fittest! Who will outlast five determined opponents to win AEW’s first Survival of the Fittest and become the seventh TBS Champion?

TNT Championship: “The Jet” Kevin Knight (c) vs. ROH World TV Champion “Blackheart” Lio Rush

Knight and Rush unexpectedly met inside the steel cage on Sunday at Forbidden Door, when it was revealed that Rush was inside a massive equipment bag that Roderick Strong brought to the ring as a weapon. When Rush popped out, he started attacking the Don Callis Family, including Knight, who eventually threw him back in the bag and locked it up with a chain! Tonight, they’ll go one-on-one with the TNT Championship on the line! Knight has the backing of the Don Callis Family, but has Rush formed some sort of bond with The Conglomeration? Only Blackheart knows how “He” operates.

AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley & Will Ospreay vs. The Swirl (Blake Christian and Lee Johnson)

Forbidden Door was a huge night for both Moxley and Ospreay. Despite a spirited effort from ROH World Champion Bandido, Moxley managed to successfully defend his AEW Continental Title. In the main event, with Moxley and the Death Riders watching from ringside, Ospreay dug deeper than he ever had to before and finally beat Swerve Strickland for the first time in AEW to win the 2026 Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament, punching his ticket to the AEW World Championship match at All In: London!

There will be no rest for Moxley and Ospreay when there are bigger goals to fight for, so tonight, they’ll tag against a brash duo in The Swirl!

We’ll Hear From “Switchblade” Jay White

After 15 months away, White made his shocking return at Forbidden Door, when he got some revenge for Bang Bang Gang and himself on David Finlay with a Blade Runner, ultimately costing The Dogs their AEW World Tag Team Championship match against Christian Cage and Adam Copeland. Tonight, we’ll hear from White for the first time in over a year on Dynamite!
