Darby Allin is your NEW AEW World Champion – and in the end, he defeated Maxwell Jacob Friedman with a side headlock takeover.
Allin was able to overcome some underhanded tactics from MJF to start their match on AEW Dynamite, taking out Max with four Coffin Drops followed by the very same side headlock takeover with which MJF had previously defeated Allin.
The match started with MJF “remembering” that he had the Dynamite Diamond Ring stuffed in his trunks, just as he did prior to his title defense against Kenny Omega Sunday at AEW Dynasty. When Max gave the ring to referee Aubrey Edwards, he took advantage of her momentary distraction to land a low-blow on Allin.
But Allin was able to turn the tables, landing a low-blow of his own that Edwards didn’t see. Allin then immediately capitalized with those repeated Coffin Drops from multiple corners, then lifted MJF up for the side headlock takeover.
And with the 1-2-3, Allin is AEW World Champion for the first time!
