AEW Collision was back in the Smart Financial Centre in Houston, Texas, on TNT and HBO Max to finish up what’s been an eventful stop on the road to AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, which is now just eight days away on July 28 in San Jose!
In one of the biggest and most emotional upsets in AEW history, Maya World beat her trainer and ROH Women’s World Champion, Athena, to advance to the Finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament at Forbidden Door against Mercedes Moné, who came out to acknowledge World after the main event, but then joined Athena in attacking World as Collision came to an end.
Kris Statlander took another step towards becoming a two-time TBS Champion by defeating Mina Shirakawa in a qualifying match for the TBS Championship Survival of the Fittest on the July 1 Dynamite. And after an intense face-to-face and brawl, there’s even more reason to look forward to Jericho vs. Tommaso Ciampa on July 8 at Dynamite Beach Break.
Plus, the Young Bucks and Jack Perry won a fantastic Trios bout against The Lethal Twist – and they almost certainly had their eyes on Zack Sabre Jr.’s victory over Adam Priest before ZSJ faces Kenny Omega next weekend. Místico wowed the Houston crowd in his win over Dante Martin. And PAC showed he was ready for his IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship match against Shota Umino at Forbidden Door.
All that and so much more went down in Houston! Here are your complete results!

Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) & “Jungle” Jack Perry def. The Lethal Twist (Jay Lethal, Blake Christian and Lee Johnson)
What an exciting way to open up Collision with the entrance of the Young Bucks and “Jungle” Jack Perry! Christian and Nick opened this one with an exchange of close calls, so Nick offered a handshake, which Christian responded to with a middle finger. The Bucks used a combination of tag-team offense to take down Christian, then Johnson. Perry nullified Lethal with a clothesline over the top to the floor. The Bucks alternated attacks on Johnson and Christian in the corners and finished it with a high-five in the middle. Christian got clobbered by kicks in the corner, and Perry entered the match. Christian rolled out, so Perry dove outside to take out Johnson and then did it again to Christian. Lethal stopped Perry from doing more, but Perry broke free and tried a moonsault to Christian. Christian avoided it and nailed Perry with a thrust kick. Matt hit Christian with double boots through the ropes and held them down for Nick to come over the top with a twisting dive to Johnson and Christian!
The Bucks and Perry worked over Christian in the corner and then connected on a triple dropkick. Christian kicked out at two. Perry took a knee from Johnson near the ropes, and Christian took advantage with a shot to Perry’s lower back. Lethal and Johnson cleared the opposite corner, as Perry was hung up in the tree of woe. Both Jacksons got caught in head scissors and dropkicked to the ground. Lethal took out Nick with a dive on one side while Johnson and Christian sandwiched Perry with kicks in the corner. Christian hit a moonsault to Matt from the second turnbuckle to the floor!
Perry did everything he could to get away from Lethal Twist, but they kept him away from his corner with triple-teams and working on Perry’s left leg. Perry finally struck his way out of the corner and took Johnson to the floor with a diving hurricanrana off the apron. Perry nailed Lethal with a comebacker lariat and tagged Matt. He knocked Lethal off the apron and unloaded on Johnson and Christian with a barrage of high-impact offense. Nick came off the top with a stomp to Johnson and continued across the ring with a backstabber to Christian. Matt hit a trio of Northern Lights Suplexes on Johnson, with the third sending Johnson into Christian in the corner. The Bucks hit an MMMBop Drop, but Lethal came in to break it up! Nick got two for one on Lethal and Johnson, but the Bucks were stopped on the top rope by Johnson and Christian before they could leap. They tried to turn things around, but the Bucks hit stereo powerbombs and Sharpshooters. Perry put Lethal in the Snare Trap, but Lethal made it to the ropes. Perry officially tagged in and Lethal hit the Lethal Combination, but Nick came in to stop him, and Matt took everyone over with a sunset flip that allowed Nick to powerbomb Lethal!
Johnson and Christian cut the Bucks off with thrust kicks and Lethal hit a Double Lethal Injection! Johnson caught Perry out of the corner to hold him for a top-rope stomp from Christian and a King’s Elbow from Lethal! Perry kicked out at two! Perry tried to fight his way loose and did so when Lethal hit Christian by mistake. Matt made a blind tag before Lethal sent Perry over the top onto the ramp. Lethal tried another double Lethal Injection, but ate a pair of superkicks! Christian and Johnson stopped the Superkick Party and sent the Bucks to the ramp, but the Bucks stopped their springboard attempts, and they landed on the top rope. The Bucks launched Perry back into the ring for a super knee strike on Lethal and then hit superkicks on Johnson and Christian! Perry took Johnson and Christian down with a double Poisonrana! Perry went up top for a moonsault to the floor on Christian and Lethal. The Bucks hit the Meltzer Driver on Johnson to get the three-count and win!
Kris Statlander and Mina Shirakawa Meet Before Their Match
Before the match, Lexy Nair caught up with Statlander, Shirakawa and Harley Cameron. She asked if they were still friends. Mina said she’s always respected Stat, and when it comes to Shida, she can finally say, “I told you so!” Stat said no one likes being told that. Mina noted that while Stat had been TBS Champion before, Mina had never worn a title in AEW, so she’s ready to fight! Statlander said that’s good because she is too, just like the last time they fought, when Stat beat her. Mina may need this, but Stat was made for it. Cameron got between the two and said she’d be on commentary, so she wanted a clean fight, and her qualifying match is next week, so she’ll be seeing one of them in the ring in the future. She told them to shake, and they did, although Cameron had a different idea in mind.
Hikaru Shida Has Plans for the TBS Title
Lexy Nair asked Shida if she’d be watching the upcoming match with Statlander and Shirakawa. Shida thought it was funny that the two girls who tried to embarrass her now have to fight each other to qualify. She said it doesn’t matter who wins because on July 1, they’ll all have to survive her!
“And after Survival of the Fittest, TBS will stand for The Best is Shida!”
TBS Championship Survival of the Fittest Qualifying Match: Kris Statlander def. Mina Shirakawa (with Harley Cameron on Commentary)
Cameron joined commentary to watch two people she’s called friends and partners, although Cameron admitted she’s on no one’s side tonight.
Shirakawa slowed Statlander down with a headlock at the start and did everything she could to keep it on, even as Statlander suplexed out of it. Statlander hit a running uppercut in the corner, but Shirakawa followed her to the adjacent corner for one of her own and brought Statlander out with a bulldog. Shirakawa celebrated with a shimmy and avoided a charging Stat in the corner before pulling her arm over the top rope. Shirakawa came back in with a springboard tornillo to get a near-fall, and Statlander rolled to the outside. Shirakawa went to the top turnbuckle, but Statlander pulled her down with a shoulderbreaker variation on the apron!
The back-and-forth matchup wound up back on the floor, where the two erupted in a flurry of strikes and kicks that knocked them both to the floor. They rolled back in the ring, and Shirakawa took the lead with uppercuts followed by La Mística! Shirakawa hit a discus forearm to the back of Statlander and dropped her with a draping DDT to get another near-fall! Statlander stopped Shirakawa with a pump kick, so Mina returned fire with a discus elbow only for Statlander to take her down with a clothesline! Statlander charged at Shirakawa, but went over the top on a low bridge. Mina went up top and hit a crossbody to Statlander on the floor! Shirakawa threw Statlander back in and hit a dropkick from the top rope! Statlander kicked out at two!
Shirakawa tried for the Glamorous Driver, but Statlander pulled her into a tombstone, which Shirakawa slipped out of onto her feet. Statlander hit a big thrust kick and a Fireman’s Driver for a very-close near-fall! Statlander pulled Mina back up for Staturday Night Fever, so Mina slipped into another near-fall. Shirakawa hit a spinning back first and tried another Glamorous Driver, but Statlander dropped into a pinning predicament for a two-count of her own. Shirakawa hit another La Mística and tried to pull Stat over for the pin, but Statlander rolled through to hook Shirakawa for the three-count out of nowhere! Statlander joins CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone and Hikaru Shida to make up half the field in the TBS Championship Survival of the Fittest on July 1! Cameron joined both women in the ring, and they all embraced.
Bang Bang Gang Have a New Business!
After recently announcing where their $200K prize money went, Bang Bang Gang presented their first commercial for Rock Hard Juice Robinson’s Super Affordable Quick and Easy Kinda Reliable Spay and Neuter Center for Lost Dogs! But at the end of the commercial, they promised to come for The Dogs, David Finlay and Clark Connors!
“Jungle” Jack Perry Wants Zack Sabre Jr. On Dynamite
Perry told the story of his first time in Japan, which coincided with the rise of Zack Sabre Jr., who was making a big name for himself. Sabre went out of his way to make Perry feel welcomed, and they even shared Perry’s first adult beverages. Perry likes to test himself, so he asked ZSJ to wrestle him next Wednesday on Dynamite. And after, they can go out for drinks, but Perry will get the tab this time because the winner should always pay.
The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin w/ MVP) def. Warren Johnson & Zack Mason
For the first time since winning Stadium Stampede at AEW Double or Nothing, Lashley and Benjamin were back in action against the unlucky Johnson and Mason. Lashley was especially excited to get in there and offered a handshake to Johnson, who made the foolish choice of slapping Lashley! Lashley backed him into the corner, so Mason made a blind tag and tried a double axe-handle from the top rope to Lashley’s massive back that had no effect.
Lashley threw Johnson down and wildly swung at Mason. He missed, so they both fired away at Lashley into the corner until he simply stood back up and they ran to the ropes. Benjamin tripped Mason and pulled him to the floor as Lashley nearly put Johnson through the mat with a spinebuster! Benjamin tagged in and dropped to the floor to bounce Mason back and forth between the apron and barricade. He threw Mason back in for a release German suplex followed by a step-ladder knee in the corner. He dropped Johnson with a thrust kick, and Lashley speared Mason! Benjamin covered for the easy three-count!
MVP grabbed the mic after the match to tell the world that they are not interested in competing for championship titles. What they are interested in is doing what they do better than anyone else for money! They aren’t friends or enemies with anyone. They are businessmen, and they are in the business of hurt. “So if you want someone mauled. Suppose you want someone’s ass whooped properly. You see your boy MVP and bring a big ol’ bag of cash! You bring the money, and we’ll bring the pain. Ladies and gentlemen, we are The Hurt Syndicate, and we are open for business!”
The crowd chanted the business motto: “WE HURT PEOPLE!
Christopher Daniels Re-Introduces Matt Sydal!
Daniels was with SkyFlight and said since they are always looking for the top competition, tonight he got this special match with Místico for Dante Martin. And then he said he has more good news for AEW as a whole and introduced his former tag team partner returning from a long injury absence, Matt Sydal!
Daniels told Sydal whatever path he chooses next, SkyFlight will support him. Sydal admitted this was the toughest recovery of his life, but if they have his back, he'll have higher flights than ever before!
Jericho vs. Tommaso Ciampa Will Go Down at Dynamite Beach Break!
Nigel McGuinness introduced Ciampa, then Jericho, who came down without any sparkly entrance gear and looked ready to fight. He still egged on the “Judas” singalong from the crowd, and McGuinness handed him the mic. Jericho told Ciampa he was worthy of seeing a serious Jericho, and he wouldn’t have gotten as far in this business if he didn’t think Ciampa was worthy. Jericho knows how good Ciampa is, and he’s been waiting to face him. Jericho said Ciampa can’t determine which version of Jericho he’s going to get because they will all kick his ass!
Ciampa took the mic and said this is the Jericho he wanted from the beginning. He’s wanted this match for a very long time. Ciampa has an idea: “July 8th at Beach Break in Clearwater, Florida, that’s what, ten minutes away from your adopted home? And Chris, I want you to invite your friends and your family, and I want you to sit them in the front row. Because on that night, at Beach Break, we’re going to find out one of two things: either you are exactly who you say you are or this entire world finds out that Tommaso Ciampa is indeed better than Chris Jericho.”
Jericho agreed to the match and said, “In Clearwater on July 8th, we wrestle, but tonight, here in Houston, excuse me, Nigel, we fight!”
Jericho blasted Ciampa and knocked him to the mat to go for the Walls of Jericho, so Ciampa bailed to the floor. Jericho stopped Ciampa, but Ciampa answered with a mule kick that connected low on Jericho! Ciampa took advantage, tossing Jericho into the barricade then repeatedly onto the steel steps! Ciampa took a moment to show off his work before unloading on Jericho with strikes and a bite to the forehead that drew blood! Ciampa threw Jericho back in the ring and laid him out with a vicious bicycle knee! Ciampa kissed Jericho on his blood-spattered cheek and left him lying!
IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Shota Umino Accepts PAC’s Challenge for Forbidden Door
Earlier this week, PAC threw out a challenge to the new IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Shota Umino. Today, Umino responded at NJPW Yuji Nagata Produce Blue Justice XVIII and told PAC he accepts and he’ll see him at Forbidden Door!
Místico def. SkyFlight's Dante Martin (w/ Christopher Daniels)
Martin entered with Daniels for what could be one of his biggest matches to date. Místico’s entrance enthralled the crowd as they were captured in the singing of “Me Muero” that rang throughout Houston!
Místico offered a handshake at the bell, which Martin accepted. Místico escaped multiple holds near the ropes and took Martin down with a flying crossbody. They traded elbows against the ropes, but when Místico came back at Martin, he moved, so Místico dove to the floor. Martin followed with a dive that sent Místico hard into the barricade. He quickly followed with another and threw Místico back in the ring. Místico pulled himself into a kick on the ropes, and Martin went back to the floor. Místico followed with a tope suicida that knocked Martin into the barricade! Much like Martin, Místico hit a second dive to take Martin down again!
Místico went to the top rope, but Martin jumped up and brought him down with a superplex! Místico grabbed at his left leg, so Martin took the opportunity to go right after it! This match took an unexpected turn as Martin smartly changed up his game plan! Martin continued to slow down the pace and attack the leg. Místico came back with a desperation springboard back elbow and followed with a springboard crossbody and a headscissors takeover that sent Martin to the floor. Místico flew over the top with a springboard tornillo that connected with Martin! He threw Martin back in and covered him for a near-fall! They exchanged strikes in the middle of the ring until Místico tried to call timeout and pointed Martin to the sky, but it was just a ruse to kick Martin in the stomach. He took Martin to the corner, and they exchanged clotheslines before knocking each other down with running boots!
They both pulled themselves into opposite corners. Místico charged at Martin, who sent him to the apron. Místico kicked Martin in the back of the head and dropped a leg. He went to the top and came off with a moonsault, but Martin was ready and got his boots up. Martin rolled Místico into a near-fall. Místico came back with a powerslam for a two-count. Místico went back up top and missed a springboard senton. Martin nailed a sitout powerbomb for a near-fall. Martin went up top, but Místico caught him with a kick to the head. They fought on the turnbuckles until Martin pushed Místico off, although Místico was able to land on his feet. He charged back at Martin with another kick to the head and scaled the ropes to bring Martin down with a Spanish Fly! He pinned Martin for the victory! Místico took time to celebrate with the adoring crowd after his win.
Ricochet Has a Message for Takeshita and Calls Out Matt Sydal!
With Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona by his side, Ricochet said AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita was doing a bad job of hiding the fact that he’s scared of Ricochet. Ricochet said all the drama with the Don Callis Family and The Conglomeration was a distraction from facing Ricochet. If they were to meet right now, Ricochet would take the title in a snap.
Ricochet said that’s a story for another time because Matt Sydal is back, which he called an obscure reference. He wondered if Sydal even knew how to wrestle anymore. But when he remembers, Ricochet will be around to give him some air time because he’s outta this world. A-Haaa!
The Dogs Respond to Cage & Cope’s Return Attack on Dynamite
David Finlay said sarcastically that he was happy to see that Cope and Cage were healthy enough to return to work. They are still defying the odds after all this time, but who do they think they are comparing themselves to The Dogs? You think The Dogs care about 30 years in the business?
Finlay continued, “What can you teach me that I haven’t already taken by force from that old bag of bones that I have to call my dad?”
Connors added, “When you face us, you better bring your grumpy old man strength, your whole back of tricks, your creams, your ointments, your balms, your salves, your vitamins, your minerals, your peptide and Roll Tides, I don’t give a damn! Cause you’re going against The Dogs, and we’re young, and we’re dumb, and we’re full of some!”
Finlay said they’ll do the teaching because they don’t make them like The Dogs anymore because they never did. They’ve smashed in every door and taken what they wanted. And what they want now is the AEW World Tag Team Championships!
“And at Forbidden Door, The Dogs are about to put you bitches down!”
Death Riders' PAC def. Jay Alexander
Jon Moxley joined commentary for this match and said he didn’t think this would take very long, although he referred to Alexander as “a very thick individual.” Alexander stood strong from a shoulder tackle, but PAC took him down with a clothesline. Behind the referee’s back, Shafir blasted Alexander on the floor. PAC threw him back in and kicked Alexander to the mat with a brutal combo. PAC blasted Alexander with a big boot in the corner and followed with a dropkick from the top. PAC flattened Alexander with a momentum clothesline and locked in the Brutalizer for the submission victory!
Thunder Rosa Challenges Divine Dominion!
Thunder Rosa said she hasn’t been in AEW as much because she’s been making history in CMLL as part of her dual contract, but she’s been paying attention and congratulated Divine Dominion on 100 days as AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions. In CMLL, Rosa has been working with some of the grittiest, hardest-working women in the world. So how about Rosa brings someone from CMLL and challenges them for the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Titles? They’ve built their legacy over 100 days, but it can take one day to end it.
“La Mera Mera doesn’t knock on doors, she kicks them down!”
Zack Sabre Jr. def. Adam Priest
ZSJ was out without TMDK, as Priest was also by himself. This was ZSJ’s first AEW match since he beat Nigel McGuinness last year at Forbidden Door, which McGuinness acknowledged on commentary. Sabre fought out of Priest’s early offense and then toyed with Priest by slapping him in the face. That fired up Priest, who fired back with shots of his own that took ZSJ to the mat. Priest nailed a snap suplex for a two-count. ZSJ blocked a suplex and once again targeted Priest’s left arm. Priest fired back again to knock Sabre to the apron. Priest tried to bring him back in with a suplex, so Sabre grabbed a cross armbreaker over the ropes. He was forced to let go on the referee’s count, but had finally had clear control.
Priest hit a desperation clothesline out of the corner to finally take Sabre down, which allowed Priest a brief time to recover. He took Sabre back down with targeted strikes to Sabre’s left leg in the corner. The two traded strikes until Priest surprised ZSJ with a quick kick to the shin and a DDT for a near-fall! Priest slammed Sabre’s left knee into the mat over and over as the crowd roared in approval, but Sabre sprang out of it and twisted Priest’s left arm with his feet at a nasty angle! Sabre dared Priest to match his strikes, so Priest did and Sabre responded by repeatedly nailing Priest’s left arm. Priest came back with a gut shot, so Sabre hit a PK! Priest chopblocked a rushing Sabre and tried for a Half Crab, but Sabre rolled it into a butterfly submission to get the verbal surrender from Priest!
Divine Dominion Isn’t Worried about Thunder Rosa
“Megasus” Megan Bayne and “Colossal” Lena Kross had a response for Thunder Rosa’s challenge. Bayne asked Rosa if she remembered what she single-handedly put her through when Bayne came to AEW. What makes you think that Kross won’t make it even worse? Kross introduced herself as one-half of the most dominant tag team in AEW history. Her heaven is Rosa’s hell. Bayne said go to CMLL and find whatever poor, ignorant luchadora who doesn’t realize what they are about to encounter, and Rosa will regret thinking that this was a good idea.
“Because you are not competition. You are the sacrificial lamb at our altar. So step up, or once again, you will bow down.”
Jericho Sends An Ominous Message to Tommaso Ciampa
With the blood from earlier in the night dried on his face, Jericho addressed Tommaso Ciampa. He thanked Ciampa for the blood splattered across his head. Jericho said he needed it.
“But trust me, you’re not going to thank me for what happens now.”
Owen Hart Foundation Women's Tournament Semifinal: Maya World def. ROH Women’s World Champion Athena
It was time for our main event and the second half of the Women’s Owen Cup Semifinals! Athena condescendingly toyed with World at the outset with a pat on the head. World and Athena traded reversals, pin attempts and dropkicks that kept them at a stalemate until Athena dropped World with a thrust kick! World was ready for Athena’s attack in the corner and stopped it to hit a tiger feint kick in the ropes. World dropkicked Athena and tried for a pin, but Athena kicked out with plenty left in the tank.
Athena blocked a German suplex attempt on the apron by pushing World into the ring post, but World came back with a forearm shot that knocked Athena to the floor. World came off the apron with a cannonball, but Athena was ready for it and rolled through to spike World on the floor! Athena continued to beat World around the ringside area and took the match back in the ring. When they battled on the ropes, World brought Athena down with a superplex! She followed with a running uppercut in the corner and another to take Athena down for a pin attempt, but Athena kicked out at two. World hit a stomp and followed with a second-rope moonsault for a near-fall.
Athena countered out of multiple pin attempts and dropped World with a deadlift powerbomb! World kicked out at two! Athena picked up World, but World hit a cutter for a two-count! World measured Athena for a running knee, but Athena caught it and stomped World into the mat! 1-2-World kicked out! Athena slammed the mat in frustration! She went up top for the O-Face, but World avoided it. She caught Athena and dropped her with a bridging fallaway slam and floated over to do it again, but Athena kicked out at two and rolled to the outside! World tried to follow with a running kick down the apron, but Athena caught it and tried to propel World into the apron, which World countered with a cartwheel!
Athena avoided World on the floor with a handspring and threw a mean thrust kick, but World caught it and threw Athena into the barricade! World jumped up on top and pulled Athena up, but Athena turned things around with a uranage on top of the barricade! Athena rolled back in the ring, but when the referee got to nine, she reached through the ropes to pull World back in as opposed to winning by countout. Athena slapped World and berated her as World struggled to get off her knees. Athena piefaced World multiple times, pointing to the sky and daring her to fight back. That incensed World, who unloaded on Athena with a barrage of forearms! Athena hit a release German suplex and a handspring forearm smash in the corner. Athena tried for the O-Face and connected! WORLD KICKED OUT! Athena was beside herself!
World rolled up Athena out of nowhere for a two-count! Athena hit a thrust kick and then another to the kneeling World, who folded over on her own knees. Athena measured for one more big strike, so World ducked under it and tripped Athena into a pin and floated over into a bridge to get the three-count! World just beat Athena! What an upset! She has done it again!
Athena and World embraced after the match, and now we know that next week, on June 20, Mercedes Moné vs. Maya World will meet in the Owen Hart Foundation Women's Tournament Final at Forbidden Door! And here comes Moné! Athena stepped aside, and World embraced Moné. As soon as she let go, Athena blasted World with a forearm. She and Moné briefly embraced and put the boots to World! Monée locked World in the Statement Maker while Athena taunted her on the mat! Moné stood over the fallen World to bring Collision to a close!
