Kenny Omega Steps To Rey Fenix! Omega Challenges For The AAA Mega Champion

AAA's “Triplemania XXVII” was an historic event for a number of reasons, dominant among them was the violent Mask versus Hair match between Blue Demon Jr and Dr. Wagner Jr. that saw Wagner not only lose, but also retire from professional wrestling. And while that piece of history deservedly gets the headlines, members of The Elite certainly managed to garner some attention as well.

First off, Cody united with Psycho Clown and, in his pro wrestling debut, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez to pick up the win in 6-Man Tag action. Then, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega would collide with The Lucha Brothers, Pentagon Jr and Fenix, and their third man Laredo Kid, in a rematch from “Fyter Fest” back in June. Unlike the Daytona Beach bout though, it was the AAA contingent who picked up the victory in a spectacular match contested in front the over 20,000 fans in attendance.

But as you can see from the above video AAA posted on their official Twitter account -

View Tweet - that defeat was not the final statement on the night from a member of The Elite. Kenny Omega stepped up to Rey Fenix, the reigning AAA Mega Champion since August 25th of 2018, and challenged him to a title bout in the future. Kenny even stated that he would come back to Mexico and AAA for that title opportunity. Fenix, without a moments hesitation, accepted the challenge! A date is not official for that title bout as of yet, but the anticipation is already there as evident by the electricity in the building when Kenny and Fenix stood eye-to-eye.

The last time these two went one-on-one was in November of 2018 where Kenny emerged victorious in a 25+ minute battle, and he was also on the winning side of a Trios bout against Fenix, Pentagon Jr, and Flamita during Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's “Battle of Los Angeles 2017” as well as the aforementioned “Fyter Fest” contest. So when this challenge does come to fruition, the numbers certainly weigh in favor of Omega, but the fact that Fenix will be defending on his home turf, with the fans rabidly in support of the Mega Campeon, that will no doubt be a heavy factor when this championship contest goes down!!!
