AEW Dynamite: Results for April 23 in New Orleans
Excalibur, “The Human Suplex Machine” Taz, Ian Riccaboni, and Tony Schiavone were the broadcast team for tonight’s event.
It’s Wednesday night and you know what that means!
Kicking off tonight’s show, along with Tony Schiavone…Hip Hop Legend Master P!
Master P: “Welcome to AEW Dynamite! It’s my pleasure to introduce the new Trios Champions—The Opps!”
New AEW World Trios Champions—Samoa Joe, Shibata, and Powerhouse Hobbs—came down to the ring!
Samoa Joe: “It is good to be in the building tonight because you see The Opps have come here to celebrate. But before we do, I have to give props to Master P for welcoming to this city. We love New Orleans and this is the best city to celebrate a new championship!”
Marina Shafir walked to the ring, but it was a trap. AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta ambushed The Opps and Hobbs! Moxley got in Master P’s face, but Samoa Joe put Mox in a rear naked choke, a repeat of what we saw one week ago.
Master P: “Put him to sleep!”
Nicholas and Matthew Jackson, The Young Bucks—and Okada ran down to the ring and cleared the ring of The Opps and Hobbs, coming to the aid of Jon Moxley.
Swerve Strickland’s music began to play, and Swerve strolled to the ring. Samoa Joe chased the Bucks and Okada out of the ring! Kenny Omega came out with a steel chair in hand and the Bucks and Okada retreated!
Samoa Joe: “With respect to whose house this is, it is nice to see you Swerve. Jon Moxley! You wanted me? Now you have me. I’ll be taking back my AEW World Championship.”
Renee Paquette was backstage with The Patriarchy!
ROH TV Champion Nick Wayne was about to speak when Christian Cage took the belt away from him and put it around his own shoulder.
Christian: “I’m the one that forced you to find yourself and spread your wings and to become the Prodigy. We’re all proud of you. In fact your mother and I celebrated your victory extensively that night. But you see what happens when you listen to me? Good things happen.”
Nick Wayne: “Well when you stick to the plan, you actually win championships.”
Christian handed the belt back and said, “I love my family.”
Mark Briscoe vs. Ricochet!
Briscoe hammered Ricochet with right hand strikes as the crowd taunted Ricochet with “bald” chants. Briscoe unleashed some redneck Kungfu and then drilled Ricochet with a scissor kick through the ropes.
Ricochet clobbered Mark with a pump kick. Mark dropkicked Ricochet on the apron and followed up with the Cactus elbow on the outside. Ricochet sent Briscoe throat-first into the ropes. Ricochet hit a cutter for a near fall.
“Excellent cutter but Mark is tough to topple,” said Taz.

Tony Schiavone was in the ring as FTR—Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler—made their return!
Stokely Hathaway walked out first and said: “They are top guys! New Orleans, give it up for FTR!”
Stokely came to the ring with FTR.
Stokely: “So I’m Stokely Hathaway and I’m going to address the elephant here in the room. Let me get this straight. You two were fined for accidentally hitting someone and touching Tony Schiavone? That’s interesting to me. Hangman Adam Page has committed arson. Ricochet comes to work every week and shake people with scissors. And should I list the crimes that Jon Moxley has committed? Yet he walks around AEW unpunished. That suspension…I’m going to have expunged from your permanent record and have the fine reimbursed to you. Moving forward, if you want to have a conversation with these guys, then you need to have a conversation with me. And as of today, I’m the new agent for FTR! Now Tony Schiavone, do your job!”
Cash: “Thank you Mr. Hathaway. What happened last week with Danny Garcia, that wasn’t an easy decision for us but he gave us no choice. Danny made his own decision. It was 2.0 that go in front of our face that said they wanted to fight. I don’t think they were ready to fight. And when Danny asked us to stop, we stopped. We got you to the TNT Title. We put Garcia first. We put Cope first, and it got us nowhere.”
Dax: “Speaking of living legends, we have the Rock N Roll Express in the house tonight.”
Dax invited Ricky and Robert into the ring.
Dax: “One of the greatest tag teams of all time, Rock N Roll Express. They had some of the greatest matches of all time. What would you say is your greatest match ever? If it was up to me, I would say Philadelphia with the Midnight Express and if I’m being honest, they were better than you. But we’re here tonight to talk about the Rock N Roll Express. If I was judging by looks alone, I’d say you’re about 108 and 109 years old.”
Ricky Morton: “We’re going to stop this right now. You’re not going to embarrass us in front of the entire wrestling world tonight.”
FTR stuffed Ricky with a spiked piledriver!
The Paragon—TNT Champion Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong—hit the ring and chased off FTR!
EVPs The Young Bucks—Nicholas & Matthew Jackson
vs.
Speedball Mike Bailey & “The Jet” Kevin Knight!
Kevin Knight connected with a springboard crossbody press onto Matthew Jackson. Speedball and Knight jumped over the top rope and crash landed on The Bucks. Nicholas moonsaulted off the apron and wiped out Kevin on the floor.

The Bucks stuffed Bailey with a Meltzer Driver off the apron. Kevin fired back with a double DDT! Ricochet ran down and grabbed Kevin Knight’s ankle. The Bucks seized the moment to nail Knight with the EVP Trigger and Nicholas pinned Knight.

Queen Aminata appeared to accept the challenge!
AEW World Tag Team Champions The Hurt Syndicate—Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley—along with Bobby Lashley, came down to the ring!
MVP: “Attention AEW viewing audience, this is an official announcement from the Hurt Syndicate. We are the Hurt Syndicate, and we hurt people. As a matter of fact, we’re so good at it, that every team we’ve faced, they haven’t been back.”
Bobby Lashley took the microphone, but he was interrupted by the sound of MJF’s exotic sports car pulling up to the arena.
MJF: “Cut my music, cut my music. Gentlemen, I know, hell, we all know you had a good time last week. And if you want to have a good time for the rest of your lives, all I need are three thumbs up.”
MVP: “All right, boys, let’s try this one more time.”
MVP raised his thumb. Shelton gave a thumbs up.
Shelton: “Let’s make something real clear. I didn’t give you a thumbs up because of a bunch of broads and a watch. It’s because of MVP and don’t you forget that.”
MJF: “Put your hand down, Bobby. I know you have your reservations, but if I’m in the Syndicate, we’ll have it all. Bob, I know you bring a lot to the table, but there’s a lot that I bring to the table. You let me in the Syndicate, we don’t just run AEW, we run professional wrestling, Bob. I know we got off to the wrong start, but it’s not my fault. But I’m willing to admit I’ve been a little prickly with the rejection. Bob, from the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry. Before you put that thumb down…you saw that car I drove up in? Bob, you give me a thumbs up, that car is yours.”
Bobby: “Let me see the keys.”
MJF: “The keys are in the back. Let’s go take a walk.”
Bobby and Shelton got into the car. Bobby gave a thumbs down and drove off with the car!
Renee Paquette was backstage to interview Hangman Adam Page about his match next week against Kyle Fletcher!
Hangman: “I’m going to put him in the ground the moment I see him!”
MJF interrupted and taunted Page, saying he was going to join the Hurt Syndicate and reclaim the AEW World Championship. “You think you’re a bad ass because you’re in the Owen Cup? If you get to the finals, you’re going to do what you do best…choke.”
“The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay & Hounds of Hell’s Brody King
vs.
The Don Callis Family’s Josh Alexander & Konosuke Takeshita (with Lance Archer & Don Callis)!
Takeshita and Alexander hit tandem offense on Ospreay. Ospreay took down Josh with a hurracanrana. Brody scoop slammed Takeshita and deposited him on top of Alexander. Brody walloped Josh with a chop.
Alexander charged at Ospreay and knocked him out of the ring with a low cross press under the bottom rope. Brody back dropped Josh. Brody clubbed Takeshita with a monstrous lariat. Brody flew out of the ring with a tope suicida onto Takeshita and Alexander!

Josh power bombed Ospreay. Takeshita sent Brody flying with a German suplex. Josh joined in and hit a German suplex on Brody. Takeshita smashed Brody with a PowerDrive knee strike. Josh spiked Brody with the C4 and picked up the victory! After the match, Archer choke slammed Will Archer.
Kyle Fletcher went to attack Will Ospreay as Archer held up Ospreay, but Hangman Adam Page walked toward the ring to make the save. And then Trent and Rocky Romero ambushed Page! The Don Callis Family ganged up on Hangman Adam Page, making it essentially six on one! Fletcher spiked Page with a brain buster!
It was announced that on May 14th at Beach Break, it’ll be Jon Moxley defending the AEW World Championship against Samoa Joe!

After the match, TBS Champion “The CEO” Mercedes Mone walked onto the stage and taunted Jamie Hayter!
